Horse Racing Tips on Wednesday, February 9

Racing from Fairyhouse and Ludlow comes under focus on Wednesday. They are the two tracks at which our editor’s 4,911/1 Lucky 15 takes aim on a packed day of horse racing.

Fort Worth Texas (12.45 Fairyhouse)

The opener of the day in Britain and Ireland looks a cracker. This Mares Beginners Chase boasts a good few horses who should be winning over fences.

Dolcita may be the obvious for Willie Mullins, but stepping up to 2m5f is a bit of an unknown for her and FORT WORTH TEXAS may be a mare worth chancing against her.

This trip and ground promises to be more or less ideal for Colin Bowe’s charge. If anything, she may want a bit further, but there is one piece of form that particularly stands out regarding her.

It has been a long layoff for her, which is the chief worry, but her last chase start saw her finish second to none other than Energumene. Willie Mullins’ two-mile champion unsurprisingly broke the clock over 2m4f that day, but Fort Worth Texas was 19 lengths clear of the third on her chase debut that day. A repeat of that effort may well be enough.

Conqueredalofeurope (1.15 Fairyhouse)

From the very bottom of the weights in this handicap, CONQUEREDALOFEUROPE may well be capable of winning at this level.

He reached a mark of 120 over hurdles after winning on debut and though that mark proved beyond him, he is still 10lb below that over fences. There was no chance of him winning any of his first three starts over fences either, with Bob Olinger, Ferny Hollow and Ciel De Neige the horses who won the races he contested.

However, handicapping was always likely to be his game and he was beaten by just half-a-length off a mark of 107. He has a better racing weight for this contest and while it may be a slightly more competitive race, his last run proved he copes well with this course and distance.

Chambard (2.30 Ludlow)

The only British based selection in the Lucky 15, it is no surprise CHAMBARD has improved again this season.

That is because he is trained by Venetia Williams, who is having a golden time of things. This ten-year-old won impressively at Exeter on New Year’s Day, his first win over fences, before finishing second to Zhiguli at Lingfield.

The winner was impressive that day and Chambard pulled 18 lengths clear of the third. That makes his 3lb rise look fair by comparison and Lucy Turner continues to claim 7lb off his back.

It would be ideal if a little more rain fell, but this race looks a very good opportunity for him to continue a fine season.

Better Times Ahead (4.15 Fairyhouse)

A handicap debutante for Robert Tyner, BETTER TIMES AHEAD could not be more aptly named.

Owned by J.P. McManus, there is every chance there will indeed be better times ahead now he has had his obligatory three runs to earn a handicap mark. He is described as having made “no telling impression” on his first two efforts, but the two winners of those races are very useful and despite being given a relatively easy time, he still beat the majority of horses he raced against.

Last time out, he was slightly disappointing in a weaker contest, but a mark of 98 may well not tell the full story and he will come good in a race of this nature.
