Jon’s NAP of the day – SUBWAY SURF (13/8 Unibet)

Winter Getaway has already won over obstacles, having secured victory at Stratford last month. That looks a fairly weak contest on the face of it and Philip Hobbs’ mare could be vulnerable giving weight to some attractive newcomers.

Madam Deluxe finished a four-length second behind one of my tracker horses, My Whirlwind on her only start between the flags. Both she, and the winner have made the move to Nicky Henderson’s stable since and Nico De Boinville’s mount is respected. However, I’ve been itching to see SUBWAY SURF (NAP) jump a hurdler since her bumper campaign ended and I fancy Kim Bailey’s mare will take all the beating.

Subway Surf ran three times last season in flat races, winning twice, with a four-length defeat behind the talented Silver Forever sandwiched in-between. On her final start, Bailey’s five-year-old carried a penalty to a convincing five-length victory at Chepstow and the runner-up that day, Vienna Court has come out this season and won well on her first start over obstacles.

A daughter of top sire Milan, Subway Surf moved powerfully on all of her starts last season and looks tailormade for jumping obstacles. Bailey’s mare saw out three miles really well when winning a point-to-point on soft ground in May 2018 and I think Subway Surf may simply be too strong for her rivals at Warwick.
