Distant fourth to Ballyburn on chase debut and was in the process of running a big race behind a few nice types in a beginners' a Navan before coming down late after a small error; major player here, although all his best form is on softer ground.

Two chase wins including 2m6f handicap here in November (off 142) and at least as good form when staying-on fourth over same trip at the DRF; no match for stablemate Maxxum over 2m4f at Clonmel on latest; Jack Kennedy's pick.

Won for the second time over fences when taking a Punchestown handicap on return last November; fourth in a valuable Leopardstown handicap since but was below form at Cheltenham last time; seems to be the yard's second string on riding arrangements but still respected.

Nearer last than first in the novice handicap chase (extended 2m4f) at the Cheltenham Festival last March but he's a better horse now, having won at Punchestown (about 2m5f, soft to heavy) in November and been close up in a big field at Leopardstown under similar conditions last month; even more needed and he might prefer slower ground than is likely today; yard runs two.

Signed off last season with a Listed handicap hurdle win at the Punchestown festival and now rated 138 in that sphere; will be thereabouts if transferring all that ability to fences; chase debut returning from 238 days off.

3rd in the Martin Pipe earlier this year before bolting up at Ayr in a novice hurdle last term; jumps well and has given the impression he's a chaser in the making; interesting that Townend sides with him over two other promising starts.

Third in the 3m5f Irish National last April, despite an indifferent round of jumping, and third of 16 with cheekpieces at Leopardstown on latest outing was his best form, despite just the 2m5f; kept jumping out to his right in the latter and although a case can be made for him, it would have to gloss over that he's completed only four of his eight chases.

Won 2m4f Gowran beginners' chase last season but completion record since has been poor, standout run when good third in 3m5f Irish National, despite indifferent round of jumping; pulled up both outings this term in 3m handicaps, in Troytown at Navan and after a hesitant round of jumping in Thyestes at Gowran in January; hard to be confident in.

Won 2m4f beginners' event on this card last year; made a bad mistake and unseated rider four out in the Brown Advisory; making progress when brought down four out in the Mildmay; fine effort, despite an indifferent round of jumping, when third in the Irish Grand National; weakened from five out when favourite for the Troytown at Navan on seasonal debut.

Grade 2 winner over timber and his chase debut wasn't without promise, despite not always jumping with fluency; expect him to improve from that but Townend prefers Quai De Bourbon.

Last season's 4m Scottish National winner but mixed bag this term however, including early faller in Thyestes and most recently mistakes before unseating four out in Aintree National; hard to be confident in and handicapper not relenting.

Leopardstown seventh to Favori De Champdou at Christmas was a glimpse of what he's capable of; the performance which really gets the juices flowing, however, came in the Scottish National at Ayr (4m, good to soft) last April when very confidently ridden and unleashed to find a tremendous response on the run-in, cutting down the leader; it's very hard to rule him out after that, despite the 12lb higher mark.

Ended last season with Scottish National win at Ayr (4m, good to soft); very pleasing return when third to top-class Romeo Coolio in Grade 1 Drinmore here (2m4f, yielding to soft); a shade disappointing in the Paddy Power at Leopardstown when seventh (3m, yielding); well backed to land the Theyestes last time when stable first string but fell at the fifth; Townend abandons ship now but he has ability and likes this track.

Rallied well when 125-1 second in a 2m4f handicap chase at last year's Cheltenham Festival; he's since won a beginners chase in Ireland and ran respectably at Cheltenham last time on his second attempt at about 3m; needs to build on that in today's first hurdle race since August 2024.

Surprising that he appeared a non-stayer over 3m in last month's Kerry National as he looked all about stamina last season over 2m4f, including when a 125-1 second to Caldwell Potter in a handicap here in March; that's strong form and he's entitled to another chance at this trip.
