Form & Verdict
Out of form on his three starts this season (including over hurdles here on his reappearance) and has plenty to prove; however, he's below his last winning mark and all four wins have come here (seven visits), so the return to Plumpton could trigger a revival; first-time visor replaces cheekpieces.

All of his five wins have been gained at Plumpton but he's been well held at that track (2m1f/2m4f) in last three runs; now 9lb lower than for his last success but that that was 14 months ago and others are preferred.

All his five victories have been gained here but he arrives under a cloud, last of five in 2m1f handicap chase here last month; yard is back among the winners though so not totally dismissed.

All five wins on this track, over hurdles and fences (good and soft); ran his best race for a while over C&D last month, but soundly beaten when last of four finishers (odds-on) here since; reservations now.

Form & Verdict
Second to I Shut That d'Or over C&D (good) in November before easily going one better over C&D (good to soft); hit with a 10lb rise but looked good last time and he could play another leading role if handling conditions (he's unraced on soft and heavy ground).

Below par when last seen in August but ran pretty well in his previous two races, including here; has plenty in his favour, other than a tough enough mark.

Two solid placed efforts since returning from a break, latest when a 7.25l third at Stratford (2m3f, good to firm; Magic Seven second) last month; should give another good account though he remains vulnerable off this sort of mark.

Form & Verdict
Won over C&D (good) in November and, after jumping to the left when runner-up at right-handed Wincanton (2m4f, good to soft), he made all over this C&D (good to soft) three weeks ago; he did it nicely last time and a 6lb rise may not stop him if conditions suit (unproven on soft/heavy).

Posted three wins over fences in the winter of 2024-25, all at around this trip, and staged a revival when third at Fontwell (2m4f, good; Begin The Luck second) three weeks ago; back up in class but on a winnable mark and he's one to consider with the stable among the winners.

His form took off with three wins over fences last winter; however, his good run came to a halt at Stratford last March and he was tailed off again on his comeback at Haydock (2m45f, good) last month; has some questions to answer and he needs to get back on track.

His form took off with three wins over fences last winter; however, his good run came to an abrupt halt at Stratford last March and he hasn't been seen since; no great record fresh to date but the betting is perhaps the best guide to his chance.

Form & Verdict
0-8 but there have been pretty encouraging signs over fences the last twice, most recently over C&D (good to soft) when eight of the 14 fences were omitted due to low sun; he showed promise in soft-ground novice hurdles here and may benefit from the first-time cheekpieces and a sliding mark.

Won twice around Fontwell (2m3f/2m2f) during this month last year and well treated on all that; didn't appear to see out 3m last time at Kempton and the return of cheekpieces is a likely positive; goes on good ground; hard to dismiss.

Verdict

Old rivals Theonlywayiswessex and I Shut That d’Or arrive in top form but rain is forecast and they’ve done their winning on good and good to soft ground. Preference is for the lightly raced 6yo DIPLOMATIC ASH, who has shown promise the last twice and could be the type to benefit from the cheekpieces. Perhaps the main danger will be Alto Alto, who has been struggling for form but returns to his favourite course on an attractive mark.[Ben Hutton]
