Form & Verdict
Runner-up in a good-ground maiden point (2m4f) two years ago; similar modest level of form in three novice hurdles this winter, catching the eye of the stewards when keeping on for a never-dangerous third at Lingfield (2m, heavy) two weeks ago; Ben Jones replaces a 10lb claimer today; likely to come into his own when handicapping over further but has a chance today.

0-6 over hurdles but he made it second time lucky over fences when justifying favouritism after a break at Southwell (3m, soft) last month; up 10lb but that was a dominant display and he could have a lot to more to offer as a stayer in this sphere.

Point runner-up for Tom Ellis; stepped up on his hurdles form when a rallying second at Fontwell (about 2m5f, good to soft) on his chase debut in November; subsequent absence is a small concern but there's likely more to come from him, with this extra distance a positive.

Form & Verdict
The form of his second in an Irish point (October 2023; 3m, heavy) is solid enough and he also showed useful ability when second in a Chepstow bumper on his rules debut (2m, heavy); should make up into a useful performer over hurdles and he's starting out in a winnable race; absent 393 days so the betting should be useful.

Beaten by good horses in his first two runs over hurdles before getting off the mark at Ffos Las (2m4f, soft), the form of which was franked by third winning easily last week; smacks of a strong stayer and he's still entered in the Turners at Cheltenham.

Form & Verdict
Flat winner (9.5f, AW) when trained in France; no impact in two maiden hurdles for current stable but he's in an uncompetitive race here and may be capable of better.

Won on the Flat in Germany and France in his youth; 0-7 over hurdles but he was a creditable second off a reduced mark at Huntingdon (2m5f, good) 17 days ago; would have finished closer if he didn't make mistakes at the last two hurdles and he's a player if he can repeat that form back in trip.

Form & Verdict
Point winner in April 2023, after which she was sold for £25,000; unconsidered in the betting and no better than midfield in two hurdle runs this year, both for today's amateur rider Anna Johnston; she has hinted at better though and this isn't a deep race.

Verdict

Melleray Hill and Saccary can leave their first two hurdle starts behind at some point and this is an uncompetitive event. The two with most to recommend them are Bank On Frank and BOBBY’S NELSON, however, and the latter is preferred despite a 13-month absence. The form of both his point and bumper runs has been advertised and he is proven on heavy ground. [Paul Smith]
