Handicapped to be competitive and he'll go on the ground, but he had a complete off-day at Wincanton last month and blinkers now replace cheekpieces. |

Heavy-ground winner; back from another break, as was the case when second at Worcester (2m7f, good to soft) and a respectable fifth at Ffos Las (3m1f, soft); handicapped to be competitive. |

Progressive for new stable, winning four times, until form dipped sharply in last two outings; has seemingly gone off the boil and may be in the assessor's grip now to boot. |

Tailed off at Leicester (2m6f, good to soft) last month but highly progressive for new yard previously, winning four times (2m4f/3m, good to soft/heavy); no surprise if he bounces back with a big performance. |

Yet to win over fences, but creditable second at Wetherby in March (3m, good to soft; cheekpieces tried); has had wind surgery since fair fourth at Carlisle last month (3m, good; blinkers on); tongue-tie plus cheekpieces this time; chance. |

Improved on first chase run when second of four at Wetherby last time (3m, good to soft; cheekpieces first time, wasn't fluent); blinkers now tried; quite interesting. |

Beaten 13l when fifth of 11 on last month's chase debut at Chepstow (2m7f, soft); however, that performance gives this two-time hurdle winner something to build on and perhaps the first-time cheekpieces will help. |

On a good mark now and was seemingly back in good form when close fourth of 11 at Chepstow (2m7f, soft) in February; tended to jump left and was below that level without cheekpieces at Carlisle (3m) last month but has possibilities if combination of drop back in trip, first-time blinkers and return to a left-handed track has desired effect. |

Got off the mark over fences at Wetherby (3m) in December 2024; little encouragement this term until fourth of 11 in 3m Chepstow handicap 23 days ago; this lightly raced 9yo is not out of this if able to build on that recent effort. |

Yet to strike form after three runs this season (cheekpieces added two starts ago); back on a good mark now and drops in grade today but still needs to up his game; suited by soft ground; unraced on heavy. |

Won this in 2024 (heavy) and he was a promising second at Carlisle (3m, soft) in November 2025 on his second start back from a long absence; tailed off at Haydock since but he was 7lb out of the handicap and made a bad mistake mid-race; he's one to consider now back down in grade. |

Solid record (22112) having wind surgery, proving better than ever; beaten only half a length by Chasingouttheblues at Catterick (3m1f, good to soft) most recently; firmly in the mix. |

Won in first-time cheekpieces (retained since) at Newcastle (2m7f, good to soft) in December on third chase start and followed up at Haydock (3m1f, good to soft); climbing the weights but this 8yo is clearly on the up. |

Only defeat in his last four races came in a good-quality 3m4f handicap at Windsor; jumped well and stayed on best at Chepstow last time (2m7f, soft) where the front two pulled well clear; raised 7lb but Ned Fox takes away 3lb out of that; respected. |

Back-to-back wins at Wetherby (3m, soft) and Uttoxeter (3m, good to soft) before finding a Class 3 beyond him at Windsor (3m4f), though didn't run at all badly; considered back at this level. |

Verdict
Off a 4lb lower mark, LATENIGHTRUMBLE is taken to prove resurgent and gain compensation for seeming unlucky in this contest 12 months ago. Eaton Anne (second choice) is an interesting chase debutant, while the improving Paddy O’Mahler warrants respect assuming he’ll be as effective back on forecast softer ground. A couple of the others may still have more to offer.[Steve Boow]
