Form & Verdict
Won the Grade 2 Many Clouds Chase at Aintree (3m1f, soft) last December and third in the Gold Cup (3m2f, good to soft) next time, when about 18l behind the dominant winner A Plus Tard; disappointing in Aintree Grade 1 in April but has had a third wind operation since and he could be the one to benefit if A Plus Tard is below his best.

Bolted up in this race last year (soft); reappeared with very creditable third off a lofty mark in handicap at Cheltenham (3m3f, soft) in November; wind surgery since; this 11yo holds stand-out claims on today's terms.

Won the Grade 2 Denman Chase at Newbury (2m7f, good to soft) in February and reappeared with creditable second in the Grade 2 Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby (3m, good to soft) three weeks ago; also effective on testing ground but it seems likely his limitations will be exposed in this field.

Form & Verdict
Three Grade 1 wins, the latest at Down Royal (3m, soft) last October, and he reappeared with a fine handicap win off top weight in the Badger Beer at Wincanton (3m1f, good to firm) two weeks ago; this 10yo is up against it if the reappearing A Plus Tard is close to his best, but he was impressive last time and could run another big race; won over hurdles here on heavy in 2016.

Form & Verdict
Pulled up in this race last year and failed to find his peak form on his three subsequent starts; there's a doubt about whether this 11yo remains the force of old but he showed plenty of spark over 3m4f here in February, when outstayed, and he won this race in 2017, 2018 and 2020 (runner-up in 2019); relishes testing conditions and no surprise to see a bold show.

Three-time winner of the Betfair Chase here (3m, good/heavy); this 12yo isn't the force of old, as evidenced by his fourth place in that Grade 1 last time out, but he's dropped down the weights; awarded this race last year (winner demoted due to banned substance in sample) and he's respected.

Has a question to answer having been pulled up in both outings this term, although had no luck (badly hampered after six out, unable to recover) in the Cheltenham Gold Cup on latest; highly impressive in that race and the Betfair Chase last season, both on good to soft; would have the best chance if surging back to that form.

Two brilliant wins at this meeting, notably surpassing a second in this race in 2021 when tearing up the hill last March (good to soft; acts well on soft) for one of the best Gold Cup performances in recent times; seen only once since, when returning a sick horse from his first-ever off day at Haydock in November, and although recent reports are encouraging it would be pretty special if he can produce the same performance as 12 months ago after such a poor preparation.
