Beaten off 12lb lower mark on latest start over hurdles in March but a three-time chase winner since, the last twice this autumn (2m1f, good to soft/soft); needs to transfer that improvement back to this discipline but commands respect in current mood.

Won this race in first-time cheekpieces a year ago (soft ground) and added to her tally in novice company at Carlisle (2m3f, soft) in February; has fitness to prove after 290-day absence but resumes on a good mark and could easily have more to offer this season; blinkers tried today.

Verdict

It might pay to give another chance to low-mileage 6yo HALF THE FREEDOM, who appeared to find 2m5f too taxing at Exeter last month and is better judged on his clear second to a progressive rival over 2m in October. Heritier has been in very good form over fences this autumn and is respected on his return to hurdling, but a bigger threat may come from Bay Of Intrigue who was placed on good ground last month and ought to be better suited by today’s slower conditions. Last year’s winner Lady Tremaine also warrants consideration.[Chris Wilson]
