42,000gns yearling; third foal; half-brother to very promising Irish 2yo Gozen, a fairly useful 6f/1m Flat winner and an AW bumper winner; dam placed on the Flat in Italy, half-sister to a Group-placed 7f-1m1f winner; stable has pretty good strike-rate in bumpers (15%).

All four wins have been from 2m to 2m4f (on good to soft to heavy), two of those over fences; clearly in fair nick after a win and two seconds in his last three races (3m/2m4f; all in cheekpieces) but he'll be into unknown territory a long way from home over this distance; too risky.

8yo who is lightly raced for his age and won in first-time cheekpieces (retained since) at Newcastle (2m4f, good to soft) in November; close second at Doncaster (3m, good to soft) since; fully effective on testing ground and he holds leading claims.

Bought for £50,000 soon after winning three-runner Irish point in April (good to yielding); joined good stable (17% strike-rate in bumpers) for rules career; interesting to see how he fares.

Ran well when third (albeit well held in the end) on chase/handicap debut at Bangor (2m1f, heavy) in December 2023 but we haven't seen him again since and he encounters much faster ground here.

Half-brother to useful jumpers Angel Of Harlem and Go Dante; dam bumper/useful hurdle winner; outpaced from home turn when fifth of eight on debut at Ascot (good) three weeks ago, but was strong in the betting there and might be seen to better effect on the slower ground here.

Has good jumping pedigree and made quite encouraging hurdle debut when fifth of 13 at Ffos Las (2m4f, good) this month; has quite a bit to find here but is worth keeping an eye on with the future in mind.

Underwent wind surgery before his debut at Ascot and also ran in a tongue-tie; made no impression in the end but, at 4-1, better was seemingly expected of him; may do better.

Made quite promising rules debut when second of seven on good ground at Stratford in August, but that was just a run-of-the-mill mares' race and she's very probably against stronger opposition here.

33-1 when runner-up on her bumper debut for James Evans in 2022 and was 28-1 when winning a Hereford maiden hurdle by 10l in February 2023; back from a three-year absence when 8-1 but weakening quickly at Brocklesby Park (3m, good to soft; pulled up) four weeks ago; can probably do better with that outing behind her but she's impossible to assess accurately.

Fortuitous winner of the 2025 Champion Hurdle (same story in this season's Fighting Fifth); could only manage fifth when attempting to retain her crown (9.75l behind Lossiemouth); posted another solid effort in the Aintree Hurdle last time when fourth (2m4f, good to soft); return to 2m should suit, cheekpieces go on and she was second in this contest last year (good) but may need further luck to increase Grade 1 haul.

Record of 3-4 at Cheltenham features two Festival wins, beating Brighterdaysahead in the Grade 2 novice hurdle in 2024 then admittedly fortuitous (left in lead when State Man took a late fall; odds-on Constitution Hill exited earlier) when 25-1 in this race last year; also had fortune on her side in this season's Fighting Fifth as the front two in the market, including The New Lion, failed to complete; ran creditably on Boxing Day when last seen; largely consistent and should go well but may require further luck to retain her crown.

Unlucky not to win three in a row over 2m4f in the spring (good to firm-good to soft); had to settle for fourth when warm favourite to add to her tally at Worcester (2m4f, good) last month but that certainly wasn't a bad run and she remains open to further progress; respected.

Would have won at Southwell last month had she not come down at the last and successful on either side of that, doing it comfortably here last time under positive tactics; has to take an 8lb rise on the chin but looks progressive.

Has seemingly come on plenty for taking the best part of a year off as she made a winning return at Sedgefield in May and had plenty in hand when taking quite a heavy fall at the last at Southwell (2m4f; good) on Monday; needs to be none the worse on this very quick return.

Verdict

The suggestion is TABLE THIRTY FOUR who attracted good market support before his debut in what was a good race at Ascot three weeks ago. Emma Lavelle’s 5yo was made to look rather one-paced on the good ground there but could be a different proposition on this slower surface. Irish point winner Ballybeg Boss is second choice but all four of the unraced ones have good credentials on paper.[Chris Wilson]
