Very smart performer who has seen a lot of the world; Group 3 scorer in Britain and Group/Grade 2 winner in UAE/USA; beaten favourite in the Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket most recently but wasn't disgraced on form; major contender back down in class, even with 7lb penalty.

T: Charlie Appleby

Very smart performer who has seen a lot of the world; dual Group 3 scorer in Britain as a 2yo and completed a US Grade 2 hat-trick last season; justified favouritism in UAE Group 2 in sole run this year; leading contender in this first British start for two years.

First four races as 2yo were at 7f, last two 1m; soft ground seemingly against him behind Chaldean at Doncaster; won Group 3s at Sandown and Newmarket either side, latter by a neck from Epictetus who went on to be second to Auguste Rodin at Doncaster; this one's top-level assignment came at the Breeders' Cup (1m, firm) in USA where he couldn't have gone closer, against the O'Brien-trained Victoria Road (reported last month to be going for French Guineas); not quite the star quality of some of these, therefore, but he's battle-hardened and has shown he stays 1m.
