Beaten just over 2l by Calandagan when runner-up in this race last year (good) but has excelled at Ascot otherwise, posting extremely impressive wins over C&D in the last two runnings of the Prince of Wales's Stakes at the Royal meeting (good to firm); things didn't go to plan when fourth in the International at York in August last time, when he ended up in a tricky position; his supporters can have optimism that he will give Calandagan much more of a race than 12 months ago, provided he bounces back to his best. |

Unraced on ground softer than good; sometimes fails to settle but he is very talented and has progressive form, mostly over 1m; emphatically justified favouritism in Group 2 at Newmarket last time, taking record to 4-7 and gaining compensation for a Glorious Goodwood loss that would have been a win but for ending up with too much to do; good third in the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot in sole Group 1 attempt; leading contender. |
