Form & Verdict
Lost his way last season but on his reappearance he won a 2m7f soft-ground handicap at Sandown off 4lb higher; clearly a contender should he return to that level of form.

Mixed form over hurdles last year and tailed off at Chepstow over Christmas when last seen; however, he showed some spark earlier in December and he won hunter chases in February 2022 (2m7f/3m2f, heavy/soft) on his last two runs over fences; capable of having a big say.

Led in the final stride at Sandown (2m7f, soft; acts on heavy) on reappearance last term; went downhill since until a change to this headgear back in the same Sandown race 18 days ago was his best performance since New Year's Day, so there is renewed hope.

Led in the final stride in this race (soft; acts on heavy) on reappearance last term; has an 8lb lower mark this time round, having gone downhill after that win and he was tailed off at Newbury one month ago; first-time blinkers replace his usual cheekpieces.

Form & Verdict
Well handicapped on the form he was showing two winters ago when effective in the mud; absences have become a feature and last season fizzled out after starting off okay over fences (final run was in the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham); had wind surgery and dangerous to dismiss.

Form & Verdict
High-class at his peak when with Warren Greatrex and snapped a long losing run on his debut for this yard at Newbury (3m, good; fine on softer) in March; 5lb rise very acceptable should he continue the good work.

Two wins and two seconds from his five races for current yard; both the wins were at Newbury, including in clearcut style from Kyntara on heavy going last time out; back up another 5lb but he was fourth in the Grade 1 Stayers' on his only visit to the Festival, admittedly in 2020, but a case can be made for this resurgent 10yo.

Form & Verdict
Three wins over hurdles for Fergal O'Brien (same ownership), the latest off 2lb higher at Cheltenham nearly two years ago; couldn't win over fences last season but didn't run badly on two occasions; could be interesting back over hurdles on ground he handles.

Placed twice (once over C&D) for Ralph Smith when cheekpieces were refitted this summer and has claims if judged on those efforts, but needs to rebound from last month's underwhelming stable debut.

Hasn't won for ages but twice placed this summer (2m7f/2m6f) for Ralph Smith and can go well again off this mark provided another change of stable doesn't rock the boat.

Returned from break with two fairly respectable runs towards the end of last season (2m3f/2m4f) and another when third over 2m7f in the refitted cheekpieces at Worcester one month ago; not the force of old and has not won since 2021 but has place claims.

Form & Verdict
Beaten when unseating on his first attempt at this trip on final run of last season but he's better than that; his win at Ffos Las (2m4f, soft) and third at Newbury (2m3f, soft) make him dangerous off this mark; stable on a roll.

Verdict

All five are feasible winners off their current marks. EQUINUS (nap) was up and down last season but he’s a major player off this mark on the best of his form and this second-season hurdler no doubt has more to offer. He returns with this yard bouncing. Bear Ghylls has plenty in his favour if he can get back on track following wind surgery and he’s feared most, followed by Art Approval.[Alistair Jones]
