Form & Verdict
Won British maiden point (2m4f, soft) in January before £35,000 sale; 11-2, won ten-runner novice hurdle at Carlisle (2m4f, soft) in October, going on before three out and galloping on much too strongly for two challengers; this is a strong field but he has plenty of scope for progress and the extra distance will help.

2-3 over fences, with both wins gained in four-runner 2m4f races on heavy ground; tailed off in a 3m hurdle last time but could quite plausibly have untapped potential over 3m as a chaser.

Very lightly raced 8yo who returned from long absence to win four-runner Bangor handicap (2m4f, heavy) by wide margin on chasing debut just under a year ago; in contention until nearly losing his jockey at the last fence at Exeter (2m3f, good to soft) last month, after another layoff, and may still have potential; cheekpieces added today.

Form & Verdict
Close second in May in his final Irish point, before £95,000 sale; has useful pedigree and made a winning start to life under rules seven weeks ago, starting 2-5 in a ten-runner novice at Hexham (2m, soft) and making all after others threatened before the final flight; some rivals in this have better form but he's promising and up in trip.

There was no return to form on his two starts this winter; arrives with plenty to prove but he's down to a dangerous mark and, if he is to stage a revival, it's likely to be here where he's posted both victories.

Down to a dangerous mark and could get back on track at some point but he's been underwhelming since winning on last season's reappearance (2m4f, soft), finishing down the field at Newcastle last month after a break.

Dual point winner in the spring who followed up easily in a maiden hurdle at Perth (2m4f) in August; second at 4-5 in Kelso novice (2m5f, again good to soft) in October was creditable, behind the Russell-trained Cadell (received 4lb) who was beaten by Kerryhill next time; the pick on form but others are promising.

Has done very well this season for new yard over fences, winning twice at Perth (2m4f, good) and going close there (2m4f, good) last time; he's going into the unknown stamina-wise but was a close second over 3m2f at Newton Abbot (good to soft) in July and this progressive 7yo is not ruled out.

Sent straight chasing by Donald McCain and has finished first or second in all four starts from 2m4f to 3m2f; jumped well out in front to win over C&D 17 days ago off just 2lb lower; might be vulnerable to something better handicapped but has a solid chance.

Bought for £115,000 in May, having won an Irish point (3m, soft to heavy); second favourite in five-runner novice at Kelso (2m6f, good to soft) three weeks ago, travelling best to lead two out before holding off the Russell-trained Cadell (gave 7lb) who'd beaten Dripsey Moon the time before; has made a cracking start.

Won a Grade 2 novice hurdle at Doncaster (3m, good) last January and he's had wind surgery since being pulled up here in November on his only run this season; he's a lightly raced 7yo who retains potential but a leap of improvement is needed and it's hard to be confident after last time.

Form & Verdict
2-4 in bumpers but it took seven attempts before he was off the mark over hurdles, produced late in a 3m handicap at Musselburgh (good to soft) 24 days ago; no stamina worries and he has place claims but the more lightly raced sorts seem to have more potential.

0-16 since winning on debut in March 2023 and he's 5lb out of the handicap today; however, he's been hinting in chases at about 3m this year that today's extra test of stamina may be right up his street; interesting for stable that had an excellent weekend.

Verdict

Kerryhill put up a striking performance on his hurdling debut and brings loads of potential. A line through the runner-up, the Lucinda Russell-trained Cadell, gives Dripsey Moon the better form but it would not be a surprise were Kerryhill to improve past him. Russell has a fascinating candidate herself in Choose A Copper, who drew clear again late on in a race at Hexham over just 2m. Another major player, though, is BIG CITY ROLLER, who has also won his only start under rules, over 2m4f, and he looks nailed on to improve with today’s extra distance, so he gets the vote ahead of Kerryhill.[Richard Austen]
