Form & Verdict
Ran on well to win the corresponding event last year on his debut for Ruth Carr; added two further wins at Ripon last year, including for this yard in August off 3lb lower; not much room for error back from a six-month absence.

Tumbled down the weights last year before undergoing wind surgery; was inclined to pull hard and didn't see it out on his Tapeta comeback, and the suspicion is he'll be back at some point.

Form & Verdict
Raced over 7f and 1m thus far, winning twice for this yard in 2023 (7f, good to firm and good); ended last season with a career-best second at Newmarket; can progress again this year but trip and ground are imponderables back from six months on the sidelines.

Continues to edge down the weights and he's well treated on the pick of this winter's course form; however, he appears to have gone off the boil on his last few outings and needs to raise his game.

Form & Verdict
6f on slow ground is ideal for him and he returns to action off a mark 3lb lower than when a close fifth in last season's Ayr Silver Cup; whether fresh is the time to catch him is a moot point though and he has refused to race in the past.

The winner of 12 of his 67 starts, including three 6f handicaps (good to soft) in 2023; first time out perhaps not the time to catch him though and he could probably do with a bit of help from the handicapper too.

Verdict

Bay Breeze isn’t handicapped out of things on his return, while Broken Spear should be at concert pitch after two runs last month, but GLORIOUS ANGEL (nap) can be the answer. Her latest effort in a Doncaster Listed race was perfectly respectable and this race should be more to her liking.[Paul Smith]
