Form & Verdict
Serial slow starter, sometimes looking reluctant, but he's run well for most of the summer and won at Newbury in June; won a maiden on soft in 2021, unraced on it this season; clear quirks and his form dipped when he overdid the slow start last time, but in the mix if back to his best.

In terrific form of late, winning 2m3f Market Rasen handicap hurdle in May (good) and returned from a short break when strong-finishing neck second (clear of remainder) of 19 in 2m1f flat handicap here on Wednesday; clearly handles the track, should go well.

Has some useful Flat form and kept on steadily from a long way off the pace to take third on hurdle debut at Wetherby (2m, soft) in November; subsequent Grade 2 defeat is easily overlooked but he has become a very awkward ride, often refusing to settle and/or hanging; comes with risk.

Didn't set the world alight in his three handicap hurdles (won his two previous hurdle starts); those handicaps were at up to 2m1f and he's much more of a stayer on the Flat, but his two Flat runs at Chester (where he won last season) this term were disappointing; tongue tied first time.

Seems to act on most ground; recorded the latest of his six wins when scoring at Leicester (1m4f, good; stays further) in April but he's been below par over the summer and beat a total of one rival across his last three starts; now handicapped accordingly but revival still required.

Verdict

While most of the field have realistic each-way claims, the hat-trick seeking pair IT’S ALL ABOUT YOU and Knight Templar may be the ones to focus on. The latter is the only 3yo in the field and he’s 2-2 for his current stable but it looks as if he needs further improvement, while the selection is probably better than the bare result at Ffos Las last time, having taken over (from Russian Rumour) in smooth style over 3f out in that 2m race on heavy going.[Richard Austen]
