Form & Verdict
Very lightly raced 6yo, who won an Irish point and a Wetherby novice hurdle (2m5f, soft) in her first two starts; held in a Listed race in her final hurdle run last season but it was a different story on her chase debut when she stormed clear in Listed mares' event at Bangor (2m1f, heavy; RPR 145) last month; hit a clear personal best with that impressive win and she sets the standard under a penalty on this step back up in trip.

Grade 2-winning chaser who ran well to be eighth in the 2024 Grand National; last season ended disappointingly (latterly in the Midlands National when tongue-tie joined regular cheekpieces) but she was second in the 2m4f Listed race on this card before respectable efforts in the Coral Gold Cup and Welsh National (won by Val Dancer); stays this far and the handicapper has given her a chance; interesting.

Form & Verdict
Point and hurdle winner (2m4f, soft), who made a good start over fences with her easy win in a Uttoxeter handicap (2m6f, good; first run after wind surgery) on her return last month; that was a three-runner race and this is much tougher but she raised her form to a new level with that success and could have a lot more to offer in this sphere.

Useful chaser for Emma Lavelle; didn't fire on either outing last autumn, latterly when back over hurdles, and makes stable debut after 338-day absence but has slipped to a dangerous mark and the booking of Sean Bowen catches the eye.

Form & Verdict
Dual hurdle winner (2m3f), who has run well in two of her three starts over fences, including when a close second of five in a handicap here (3m, heavy) in her final run last season; still has potential in this sphere but this is a tough assignment after 286 days off and others are preferred.

Form & Verdict
Useful triple hurdle winner (best RPR 139), who made it second-time lucky over fences when landing a Fontwell mares' novice (2m3f, soft) last month; that was a good opportunity but she won with plenty in hand and the early signs over fences have been very positive; respected back up in grade.

Form & Verdict
Has a patchy record in her 15 starts but she won a Listed handicap hurdle at Cheltenham (2m4f) in April and kicked off her chase career with a dominant display in a Huntingdon novice last month; this is a much stiffer test but there was a lot to like about that last success and she already looks a better chaser than hurdler; her wins have come on good/soft.

Ran in the Grand National 11 days ago, badly hampered at the second fence and falling at the third; won two high-profile handicaps last November before Listed win at Newbury and the drop back to 2m4f didn't appear ideal at the Cheltenham Festival; leading claims if none the worse for last time.

10yo who is better than ever this term, including with a big handicap double in November in the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham (2m4f, soft) and Coral Gold Cup at Newbury (3m2f, good to soft); dropping back to 2m4f, however, was probably not ideal when creditable third in mares' race at Cheltenham last month; 8lb higher than in the Newbury race but her dominance that day is hard to forget.

Form & Verdict
Bumper/hurdle winner who returned after wind surgery with a 32l win on her chase debut at Kempton (2m4f mares' handicap; tongue-tie added) last month; that was a major step up from her best hurdling form and she's open to more progress over fences; shortlisted.

Verdict

A fascinating event involving five recent chase winners but the one that stands out on form is GALIA DES LITEAUX, who made an impressive start over fences with her emphatic win in a mares’ Listed event at Bangor. Last month’s Fontwell scorer Kissesforkatie is respected along with Eureka Creek, but the main threat could come from the Nicky Henderson-trained Tweed Skirt, who kicked off her chase career with a 32l win in a Kempton handicap.[David Moon]
