Form & Verdict
Grade 1 novice hurdle winner last season and a dual Grade 1 novice chase winner this term, firstly over C&D (good to soft) in Henry VIII in December and more recently when left clear at final fence for wide-margin success at Aintree (2m, good to soft) two weeks ago; tackles stronger opposition in this open Grade 1 but it will be no surprise if he's up to the task.

Has maintained an incredibly high standard in Grade 1s over 2m but, although he has won here, his rare reverses have come on this track; no longer quite the speedster he used to be at 2m and the extra stamina test was a help when winning at Ascot (about 2m5f, good to soft) last month, where he could have settled for second had his enduring will to win not come to his aid; now defends a strike-rate of 3-3 at about this trip but it remains to be seen whether he can rise to this very big occasion.

Acts on any ground; yet to finish out of the first two; formerly dominant at shorter but has lost a bit of his speed and was aided by the stiff test over the 2m1f trip at Ascot (soft) most recently, recording a second success in the Clarence House and 11th Grade 1 win; seems to be crying out for this step back up in distance and, still high class at the age of ten, may well add to his impressive tally; 2-2 over 2m4f, both in the Melling at Aintree; cheekpieces worn in last two starts are retained.

Form & Verdict
Readily won Grade 2 at Navan (2m, yielding) on seasonal debut in the autumn and runner-up in two subsequent Grade 1s, more recently when travelling well for a long way and giving very good account in Champion Chase at Cheltenham (2m, soft) last month; can make his presence felt again.

Has a good record (213) in the Champion Chase but is by no means certain to sustain it; proved a somewhat fortuitous winner of a weak edition two years ago (on soft ground) when the race fell apart and only three runners completed; far from solid on his form this term, below par in Grade 3 most recently, and returns to Cheltenham as an 11yo who may be on the wane; wears first-time headgear.

Six-time chase winner, the highlight being the 2024 Champion Chase (2m, soft); not at his best last season but signed off with a solid runner-up finish behind Marine Nationale at Punchestown (2m, yielding); pulled up on seasonal return in the Fortria at Navan (2m, soft to heavy) and tailed off at Leopardstown last time (2m1f, yielding); should be a player here but he's a risky proposition given his form although trainer reported him to be 'really coming to himself' in a recent stable tour.

Form & Verdict
Three-time Grade 1 winner over this C&D, including last two editions of this race; hasn't really sparkled since emphatic win at Exeter (2m1f, good; Grade 2 handicap) on seasonal debut in November but a bad jumping error probably cooked his goose in last month's Champion Chase and he can't be opposed with any confidence on his return to this track; handles slow ground but probably best on good/good to soft.

Bagged a second Haldon Gold Cup success (good ground) on reappearance, then ran respectably behind Edwardstone when bidding for a second Tingle Creek win; only third in this race two years ago having had an identical preparation, but he's clear on ratings in this easier renewal.

Form & Verdict
Forceful front-runner who took his form to a whole new level during the winter, winning on soft ground (also effective on good) in Kempton Grade 2 and Cheltenham Grade 1; didn't fire in last month's Champion Chase at Cheltenham but will take some catching if back on song.

Form & Verdict
Creditable second in last season's Champion Chase and seemingly back in prime form when making all in Newbury Grade 2 (2m, good; below-par Greaneteen third) in February; probably won't mind what the weather does, but is somewhat unreliable nowadays and has twice been below form in races dominated by Editeur Du Gite this season.

Outsider in this contest for the last two years, flattered when second in 2022 (race fell apart) and early faller in 2023; following Boothill's late fall, he inherited a remote second behind Edwardstone at Newbury last month when bidding for a third Game Spirit success; has the worst chance judged on this season's form.

Has failed to threaten in handicaps on his four runs this season but was also below his best last term prior to a major revival when winning this race for the second consecutive year; four visits to Newbury have yielded three C&D wins (including on soft) and no surprise if he's bang there.

Landed this prize in 2022 and also has two subsequent Grade 2 chase wins on his CV; on the downgrade now but last month's Cheltenham third (2m, soft) was very respectable and today's faster ground will suit.
