Form & Verdict
Four-time course winner, most recently when drawing 12l clear in veterans' chase (3m5f, good) in May; only fifth behind Jelski over C&D (good) at end of last month and is seemingly on a tough mark now but promising 5lb claimer Conor Rabbitt is recruited today and the forecast slow ground will suit.

Late-blooming veteran who is best known as a Cartmel specialist; drew clear to win by 3m5f there (good ground) last spring but signed off in the autumn with two disappointing runs and remains on a fairly tough mark.

Form & Verdict
Gained narrow C&D win on good ground at end of last month and beat Croagh Patrick to follow up on heavy here (2m5f) on Saturday; evidently in very good nick but will have 7lb penalty to carry if he makes a quick reappearance.

No longer the force of old and very inconsistent nowadays but battled well for narrow C&D (soft) win over Judicial Review last month, his fifth course success; also suited by good ground and recent 4lb rise is manageable if he's in the right mood again.

Four course wins, the latest over C&D in summer 2023; very much on the downgrade now, though, and never really looked dangerous when plugging on for modest third here (3m1f, good) on Saturday.

Form & Verdict
Front-runner with very good 6-15 strike-rate over fences (includes three soft-ground wins); returned from seven-month break with very respectable fourth behind Jelski over C&D (good) last month and will be a tough not to crack off today's 3lb lower mark if that run has brought him on.

Went down narrowly after a good tussle with stablemate Lights Are Green at Cartmel (3m1f, good) last month; softer ground, and a swift turnaround valid excuses for a lesser effort next time; 1-1 at Perth with weights rise effectively offset through Ed Austin's 5lb claim.

Pulled up three consecutive times in October-June but, with cheekpieces refitted, revived with game effort in defeat over 3m1f here on Saturday; it's hard to tell whether he'll be in the same mood today but he can cope with the drop back in trip and remains well handicapped on old form.

Form & Verdict
Won three times on soft/heavy ground at Ffos Las (3m) last year but was fortunate on final occasion and has been out of form in recent months; lurks on a dangerous mark now and the recent rain is sure to aid his cause, but he still needs to up his game.

10-28 over fences, including three 3m1f course wins; below form at Ffos Las this month, after a break, but is back on a good mark and this marathon trip will suit; must be considered.

Won five in a row last year (good-soft), including the 3m6f Highland National at Perth; has been rather quiet in last two races, as he was beaten 21l when third over 3m5f and then was pulled up at Kelso (4m); capable but a bit risky today.

Kept busy in recent weeks but is holding his form well, and went down fighting when second to Jelski here (2m5f, heavy) on Saturday; 7lb better off with that rival today and this longer trip will also suit.

1-11 in Irish points; unexposed under rules after only three starts and seems to handle slow ground pretty well but was beaten about 58l when fifth of seven on last month's handicap chase debut at Downpatrick (2m7f, yielding to soft).

Verdict

Gary Hanmer’s 10yo DEE STAR (nap) might normally be a shade vulnerable off a mark this high but he’ll be very well suited by a slog in the mud around here and, with Conor Rabbitt claiming a valuable 5lb, he gets the nod. Breaking The Ice ran quite well over C&D last month, after a break, and is second choice, while it will be interesting to see whether Jelski and Croagh Patrick lock horns again after their 1-2 over 2m5f here on Saturday.[Chris Wilson]
