Listed bumper winner in 2021 and won two of four hurdle races last season, including on her only start in cheekpieces, which return today; reappeared with another 2m handicap win (Hereford) and, bred to be suited by at least 2m4f, she was a hot favourite when upped to that trip at Cheltenham in December, only to unseat two out when challenging; can make amends, with plenty more to offer over this sort of trip.

Has shown fairly useful form in handicaps at Market Rasen (won by 15l) and Wincanton (ran well under big weight) since wearing blinkers; may have more to offer in the retained blinds.

Four-time winner over hurdles who made it 2-4 over fences with a 15l success in first-time blinkers at Market Rasen (3m, good) eight days ago; Beau Morgan's claim partly offsets the 7lb penalty and she is a major player once again.

Ran well on first four starts last season, latterly over an extended 2m7f, and she was back to that peak form when winning in clearcut style at Sandown (2m4f, heavy) six weeks ago under claimer Chad Bament; respected even though she's up 5lb and may well need a career best.

Third to Greyval 12 months ago off the same mark; hadn't been at her best this season but came good at Market Rasen (2m4f, soft) and clearly capable of having some say in the outcome.

Made encouraging seasonal debut over 2m4f in November but has been well beaten over that trip three times since; she's suited by good ground and can outclass this field if back on song but is unraced beyond about 2m5f and arrives with a fair bit to prove.

Dual chase winner in December 2024 and fairly consistent since, but she has struggled back up in class on last two starts, albeit they were some tough assignments; should appreciate this ease in class and she's capable of making her presence felt.

Struggled in similar event at Cheltenham last time, ending a reasonably consistent spell of form; faces another difficult assignment and may need a return to calmer waters; gained her only wins in Class 4 and Class 5 in December 2024.

Verdict

Lucy Wadham’s PRETENDING may have got off lightly with just a 3lb hit for her Sandown win and that came in similar conditions. Good Look Charm gets in off the same mark as when third in a Class 2 at Cheltenham but Bonttay (second choice) was travelling ominously well when unseating two out that day.[Alistair Jones]
