Form & Verdict
Progressive in the autumn and conditions will be okay for him; not seen to best effect when given too much to do behind One Last Tango at Christmas and was wiped out last time when going well at same track in Dublin Racing Festival; probably still on a winnable mark.

Basically a bridle horse who doesn't find much when let down, but plenty of strong form and couldn't knock his latest second to an improver at Punchestown where he pulled clear of the rest (2m4f, yielding); doubt he wants this far, but easy track will help and valuable 7lb claimed.

Novice win came at Down Royal last season and pick of this season's handicap form when fourth in 2m4f Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham and held narrow lead when faller two out in 2m4f Tim Duggan Memorial at Limerick over Christmas; didn't stay 3m1f in Thyestes following month and has had time off since; could go well.

Two good runs at Cheltenham this season, including fourth in the Paddy Power in November, and a creditable second at Limerick on his seasonal debut the previous month; in the lead but beginning to look vulnerable when falling two out in the Tim Duggan at Limerick on latest.

One of two for yard; bumper and hurdles winner on yielding and soft to heavy; much improved on second chase start when going close in a beginners' at Tramore (15.5f, gd-yld) in late May; this longer trip worth a go on the evidence of that run; chance.

Front-running mare won this easily last year when completing a hat-trick; has struggled this season although highly tried a couple of times and has been plenty keen at times; hood returning might help and not ruled out if given too much rope.

C&D success on heavy was the middle leg of a handicap hat-trick in 2021; no joy since but two good placed efforts in the autumn, notably a second of 20 at Navan, would give him a chance; poor last twice though and returns from a break.

Winner here over hurdles and third chase win came in 2m2f Listowel handicap chase last September (off 116) after more than a year's absence; another good comeback run at Haydock in February, not so good at Kelso a fortnight later over shorter trip; this probably the limit of his stamina.

Sole success over hurdles a Fairyhouse maiden (2m, heavy) in February 2024; beaten a head off 3lb lower at the Galway Festival last August (2m1f, good); shaped like this trip might suit when remote third behind Jacovec Tavern at Punchestown (19.5f, yielding) in sole start since; could go well.

Won over 1m6f on the Flat at the 2024 Galway festival; never landed a blow when 6-1 for the big amateur handicap at the same fixture last July; different proposition later that week, only just denied in a valuable 2m1f handicap hurdle; could be a big player if fit and ready.

Verdict

An open-looking renewal in which none can be safely ruled out. Two previous winners of the race in Doyen Ta Win and Bythesametoken, the latter holding strong claims back hurdling. However, the top-weight CONYERS HILL could have more improvement in him now dropped in class, having not enjoyed the best of luck of late. [Alan Hewison]
