Form & Verdict
Well handicapped on his form from winter 2022-23 but he's run just twice since, being pulled up in a point this May then tailed off back over hurdles at Chepstow ten days ago; plenty to prove.

Badly out of form over hurdles this season and there didn't seem to be any positives from his switch to chasing for last three outings; wore tongue-tie (dispensed with now) and cheekpieces for latest; way down the weights.

Form & Verdict
There's a big question mark about his current form as he's been pulled up over fences the last twice; however, he could be suited by today's return to hurdling and he's on a handy mark judged on last December's maiden hurdle win at Bangor (2m3f, soft); bred to stay and not written off.

Exploited reduced mark under Benjamin Macey at Wetherby (3m, soft) in January and last month's heavy-ground third was perfectly respectable; also suited by much quicker surfaces; probably won't be far away.

Back on track off a reduced mark since returning from a break and responded well to Benjamin Macey's urgings to get back up at Wetherby (3m, soft); big run looks on the cards off 4lb higher.

Twice a soft-ground hurdle winner at up to 3m; lost his way last season and had slipped to a handy mark and was supported before taking a step back in the right direction at Haydock (3m, good) latest; likely player from the same mark.

Form & Verdict
Not obviously well treated for this handicap debut judged on his two hurdle runs here this autumn (2m6f/2m4f), but he's shown ability and this three-time 3m point winner is open to improvement now up in trip; not ruled out.

Lightly raced chaser for whom the cheekpieces are making a difference as he won going away at Windsor (soft) and came from the clouds to be third in Haydock's Grand National Trial (again 3m4f; good to soft; 1lb lower) when ahead of Deafening Silence, Git Maker and Grand Albert; unlikely to be anywhere near the front at the start here but he could be in the finish; stays 4m and he'll surely get this far.

Built upon previous chasing promise to get off the mark at the seventh attempt over fences in first-time cheekpieces at Windsor last month (extended 3m4f, soft; from Holokea); from out of the handicap he's 9lb higher today but is unexposed in the headgear and further improvement is possible.

0-9 under rules (0-6 over fences) but runner-up three times in a row (3m3f-3m6f, various ground) before beaten about 10l when sixth of 11 in the Borders National at Kelso (4m, soft), where his jumping help him back; it's possible he'll find greater fluency today in first-time cheekpieces; chance.

Form & Verdict
Won at Newton Abbot (3m2f, good to soft) in July on third run for this yard and made it 2-2 in this visor when following up at Huntingdon (3m1f, good to soft) nine days ago; going back up the weights but remains well treated on his old form and he's won on soft/heavy in the past; leading claims.

Seemingly boosted by changed of headgear when winning twice over hurdles last year (3m2f/3m1f, good to soft) but his two runs this year (chase/hurdle) have been below par and he needs to bounce back again.

0-11 under rules and struggled in the main last term, but he was second at Lingfield (2m7f, heavy) in March and shaped on his reappearance there three weeks ago as though he would improve for the run; not discounted.

Form & Verdict
Won over hurdles and fences at Leopardstown in 2021, and he landed a point-to-point this May; however, he was tailed off in a point in June when last seen and has a modest strike-rate under rules; makes stable debut having changed hands for £4,000; others are more compelling.

Verdict

It is hard to look away from GROVE ROAD, who is 2-2 in the visor and remains well handicapped on his old form. Perhaps the three-time point winner Neo King will pose the main threat now up in trip on his handicap debut, while Lucky So And So could build upon last month’s reappearance outing.[Ben Hutton]
