Form & Verdict
Ran in two Group 2s as 2yo and progressive at Listed/Group 3 levels this season, winning well at Leopardstown (1m1f, good) two weeks ago when he reverted to front-running; probably stayed 1m2f on penultimate start, without shouting that he's a 1m4f horse.

Smart Curragh form at two; beat top-class filly Kensington Lane on debut and then finished second in Group 2 races won by Constitution River and Hawk Mountain; 2026 form includes links to top-class performers Thesecretadversary and Causeway; a promoted second behind Isaac Newton in a 1m1f Listed event at Navan; reversed form with that rival on latest.

Smart form here as a 2yo included two seconds in Group 2 company at 7f-1m on good and yielding to soft ground; back to form and probably unlucky not to win over 1m1f (good) in Listed heat at Navan on latest when a neck behind Isaac Newton and a nose behind Hotazhell (finished third/promoted to second); place shout with a repeat of that.

Form & Verdict
Pushed Maltese Cross all the way in Lingfield Derby Trial (11.6f, good to firm) and, although losing ground on that rival, fourth in the Derby at Epsom (1m4f, soft) was creditable; however, needs to bounce back from the German Derby (1m4f, soft) in which he was favourite but tailed off.

Half-brother to smart Flat and hurdle winner Absurde; odds-on winner of a maiden at Goodwood (1m2f, soft) and novice at Redcar (1m1f, good to soft; made all) on last two starts as 2yo; pushed Maltese Cross all the way in Lingfield Derby Trial (11.6f, good to firm) and could improve on that first-time-out display; more to do but he's heading the right way.

Half-brother to smart Flat and hurdle winner Absurde; odds-on winner of maiden at Goodwood (1m2f, soft) and novice at Redcar (1m1f, good to soft) on last two starts as 2yo, in the latter making all and stretching 8l clear; needs a good deal better in this company but he's clearly promising.

Form & Verdict
Won a good duel for maiden at Cork (10.5f, good to yielding) in April and followed up in a 19-runner race for handicap debut at Royal Ascot (1m4f, good to firm) six weeks ago, challenging entering the straight and tenaciously keeping the rest at bay; no harm for the Ascot form that the second hacked up last Friday and the third was a close third in Listed race; scopey sort who looks open to further improvement and should be a leading player.

Third in his two maidens as 2yo, before winning one against 15 rivals in a good duel at Cork (10.5f, good to yielding) in April; runner-up took same position behind Cannes three weeks later; Sea The Stars colt who looks scopey and open to plenty of improvement, including at 1m4f; one of four handicap debutants in this for his yard; very much one to note.

Showed plenty of promise when third on his debut at Punchestown (1m1f, yielding to soft) before finishing third at Naas (1m, yielding) in rematch with Cape Cod who won Leopardstown handicap on return off 92 this month; holds Irish Derby entry and entitled to improve up in trip this season.

Can make the running; won two 1m4f handicaps and so nearly got back up over 1m6f at Newmarket on latest start; no show, however, when he tried a 1m6f Group 3 at Royal Ascot (100-1) and he is bottom of this pack on ratings.

Won two 1m4f handicaps, gamely making all at Chester on second occasion; pitched in at the deep end for Group 2 Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot (1m6f, good to firm) 17 days ago, in which he was a never-dangerous eighth of 11 at 100-1, but that's earned him a 9lb rise; proving up to that task probably requires further improvement.

Sent handicapping this term and had 1m4f wins at Wolverhampton (AW) and Chester (good) on two of those three starts; gamely made all with first-time cheekpieces in the latter but that was off a mark of just 76 and, even though the form has been boosted, this race demands something of a much higher order.

Form & Verdict
Useful form in defeat, coming from the back, on all starts this season; best form when losing out narrowly in the London Gold Cup at Newbury (1m2f, good) before he never threatened when cheekpieces went on at Royal Ascot (1m2f, good to firm; 6-1); gelded since; while 1m4f may now be worth a go (he's not really bred for it) he needs improvement on this move from handicaps.

Form & Verdict
Sole win from seven races was a 1m2f maiden in March but he's also contested four Group events; best form when third in the Group 3 Gallinule at the Curragh (1m2f, good; unraced on firmer) in May, before weakening to a 13l defeat when fifth there in the Irish Derby (1m4f); that leaves his stamina unproven but his dam was suited by the trip.

Improved from his debut when chasing home Pierre Bonnard over 1m at Dundalk last August; found the competition too hot in the Beresford Stakes; made a fine start to the season when winning a good 1m2f maiden at this venue; got upset in the stalls when failing to build on that in the Derby Trial at Leopardstown; better when third behind the subsequent King Edward VII Stakes winner Causeway in the 1m2f Gallinule Stakes here; first Group 1 attempt now, should stay 1m4f.

Second in the Group 1 Fillies' Mile at Newmarket last October (good) and returned there with a fine third in the 1,000 Guineas (good to firm); tailed-off last, however, in the Oaks at Epsom (1m4f, testing ground) and the Group 1 Falmouth at Newmarket (1m, good to firm); while bred to stay at least 1m2f, she now has a big question to answer.

Second to Precise in the Group 1 Fillies' Mile last October (good; no match for the winner) and returned with fine third in the 1,000 Guineas (1m, good to firm; Fillies' Mile third Evolutionist in second); failed to settle when tailed off over 1m4f in the Oaks last month (when reportedly unsuited by the slow ground); drops back in trip but with something to find.

Verdict

While further improvement is seemingly needed from ENCELADUS on the ratings, he arrives on an upward curve while the others all have a variety of things to prove. The scopey 1m4f Royal Ascot handicap winner therefore gets the vote. Derby fourth Bay Of Brilliance is feared the most, on the assumption that he is none the worse for whatever went wrong in the German Derby. Geryon is one of four runners who have not proved their stamina but he is third on the list, following an improved display when he reverted to front-running over 1m1f on his latest start.[Richard Austen]
