Gained a fourth Flat win for William Haggas with a hard-earned success in the 1m6f Old Borough Cup at Haydock last September; looked like a useful recruit to hurdling when winning at Cork in January; had plenty to do when clipping heels and unseating on the home turn in a Grade 1 here in February; valuable 5lb claimed.

Looked one to follow when impressive on handicap debut at Ascot (1m4f, soft) last September; failed to kick on from that initially but got back on track with convincing win in small field at Ripon (1m4f, soft) in July; could have more to offer for top yard now things have clicked again, especially now back up in trip, and he's not necessarily a soft-ground specialist.

Gained second Flat win when bolting up over 1m6f at Fairyhouse in June; hit with a 14lb rise, subsequent third of 18 behind stablemate Thread Of Gold was a pleasing display in the circumstances; renews rivalry with runner-up Immutable.

Seven-time turf winner; has never won on AW (despite 18 attempts) so it seems encouraging that he managed a second placing on his latest visit to Dundalk four weeks ago; that was prefaced by a second at Gowran earlier that week.

Seven-time turf winner ran a nice race to finish second at Gowran earlier this week (12.5f, gd-fm): rated 4lb higher on this surface and while he's 0-17 on the AW, he's gone close on plenty of occasions off much higher marks; chance, once this doesn't come too soon.

Consistent filly has prospered in handicaps since third in a four-runner Listed race here in June; beaten a short head over 1m2f at the Curragh; profited from a return to 1m4f when winning at the same venue three weeks ago.

Generally consistent filly has run crackers in both her handicap starts, over 1m4f at Cork and over 1m2f here on latest when denied by a short head; 5lb higher now but the return to 1m4f should suit, she's preferred by Browne McMonagle and is a big player.

Form & Verdict
Bumper and maiden hurdle winner; useful form in defeat on his first two starts on the Flat, second in maidens at Killarney (behind the subsequent runner-up in Galway's big amateur handicap) and Galway; fair finish behind a group of 3yos at Roscommon last time; good 5lb claimer aboard for handicap debut.

Bumper and maiden hurdle winner has run excellent races in defeat on his first two starts on the Flat; was only 1.5l behind Eagle Fang at Killarney and he has since run a huge race off 90 in the valuable Q.R. handicap at Galway; has to concede weight to most of these but big chance.

Two wins this season, over 1m2f at Leopardstown in May off 77 and on latest when swooping late to score by a head over C&D off 79; a 3lb rise for that seems reasonable and likely to give another good account.

Off the mark on hurdling debut at Limerick last month and followed up with a first Flat win at Galway (9.5f, yielding), showing a willing attitude to score by a neck; 4lb rise more than negated by rider's 7lb claim but has to prove stamina for this longer trip (bred to stay but well beaten both previous starts at 1m2f-1m4f).

Placed in Dundalk AW maidens last winter, not so good there in May before successful hurdling debut in Limerick 3yo maiden early this month, despite taking keen hold and making most (good); didn't get home over 1m2f on sole Flat handicap effort (Navan) before that win so drop back in trip should suit.

Verdict

A 3yo has won the last three editions, and CANNES gets the vote to continue the trend following last month's second in a 1m6f Listed event at this track. That race also brings Wyman into calculations. The sole British challenger Evanesco makes plenty of appeal on the strength of a 1m4f win at Hamilton. Night Moon is perhaps the most interesting of a Willie Mullins trio, though The Reverend is the class act of the race and will benefit from Sam Coen's claim. This Songisforyou is worth a market check. Sunny South West could be a lively outsider. [Alan Sweetman]
