The horse racing action has been slim pickings in recent days following the British Horseracing Authority lockdown of the scheduled fixtures due to the coronavirus. However, racing in Ireland continues albeit behind closed doors and there is a Friday fixture going to post at Dundalk on the polytrack.

Dundalk racing today (flat, aw) – 1.30 – 5pm (8 races)

An eight-race card awaits punters anxious to get involved in some all-weather racing having had to turn to meetings in Australia, South Africa, Hong Kong and the United States for their fix. Brian Healy takes a look over all eight races on the card and gives his Friday Dundalk racing tips for every race taking place throughout the afternoon on the polytrack

1:30 – DANCE ALONE (8/1, Bet365)
2:00 – FLOWER GARLAND (2/1, William Hill)
2:30 – YUFTEN (4/5, William Hill)
3:00 – JULIET ROSE (Evens, Bet365)
3:30 – MITHMAAR (7/1, Bet365)
4:00 – CAUTIOUS APPROACH (9/2, Bet365)
4:30 – POET’S PRIDE (5/1, Bet365)
5:00 – LADY ALCAZAR (10/1, Bet365)

1:30 – Winter Series Awards Day Saturday 4th April Apprentice Handicap (4yo+ 45-65) 1m

DANCE ALONE boasts an unwelcome losing streak stretching back 31 runs to June 2018 when the Bahamian Bounty gelding was last successful.

Damien English’s charge however could be worth chancing to snap that lengthy unfortunate streak having finished less than a length third over six furlongs at this venue on his penultimate start back in January although he failed to back it up latest although he might have been amiss.

His last win however came at this distance and he’s now 10lbs below that rating having been further eased in the weights. He’s a dual-winner over course and distance and has made the frame on four other occasions so while he’s perhaps not the most reliable of performers nowadays he can post a good run here stepping back up in trip if consenting to show his best form.

2:00 – Love Your Mum At The Races Weekend Median Auction Race (3yo) 1m

FLOWER GARLAND won over this course last month and Donnacha O’Brien’s charge can follow up in this latest outing.

The Footstepsinthesand filly showed some fair form for Aidan O’Brien prior to joining the fledgling handler and following a promising fifth over seven furlongs here in January she has made the frame in both her subsequent outings.

Runner-up over course and distance later in the month where she was only beaten a neck, she ran out a ready winner of a maiden contest last month, scoring by six lengths having easily come clear of her field of rivals.

A repeat of that effort in this company should put her firmly in the mix here and every chance she can follow up that success with another win despite taking on a couple of unexposed sorts in opposition.

2:30 – Crowne Plaza Dundalk Race & Stay Claiming Race (4yo+) 7f

YUFTEN should take plenty of beating back in a claimer and the Invincible Spirit gelding can resume winning ways.

A course and distance winner back in December, Denis Hogan’s charge was borderline smart in his younger days with William Haggas and he remains capable of fair form despite being passed around a few yards since.

He hasn’t managed to back up his last success which came in a handicap and he’s contested in better races than this in recent starts so looks worth siding with dropping back down in class.

He was never a factor last time out, turning in a moody performance having been held up too far off the pace; but he’s better than that and while his Dundalk odds to win this claimer will be prohibitive, he’ll likely prove a tough nut to crack in this lesser grade.

3:00 – View Restaurant At Dundalk Stadium Maiden (Plus 10 Race) (3yo) 1m2½f

JULIET ROSE offered something to work on when finishing eighth on her debut over seven furlongs at this course in January; but the Camelot filly stepped up on that performance faced with a longer trip when finishing only a head behind China’s Storm over course and distance latest last month.

Joseph O’Brien’s charge clearly learned plenty from her debut effort, taking up the running inside the last furlong only headed late in the day and still looking perhaps a little in need of the experience.

She can continue to progress and this looks a decent opportunity for her to get off the mark now at the third attempt. She could prove a Dundalk racing tips banker bet and it wouldn’t come as a surprise if she were to collect this prize.

3:30 – Irishinjuredjockeys.com Handicap (4yo+ 45-65) 1m2½f

Compared to a few of these rivals MITHMAAR is unexposed and the Sea The Stars gelding is chanced to find another jolt of improvement on his three starts to date.

Denis Hogan’s charge had just one run for Mark Johnston prior to his Irish switch and he was entitled to have needed his first start of the campaign at his venue in February where he beat only two home. That was over a longer trip than this however, and he showed the benefit of the outing to finish fourth over one mile here earlier in the month.

He could do better stepping back up in trip to this intermediate distance and switching to the handicap ranks where a mark of 59 could prove workable. With the potential to find some improvement now he could be worth chancing to step up on past efforts and he can go close.

4:00 – Crowne Plaza Dundalk Race & Stay Handicap (4yo+) 1m4f

CAUTIOUS APPROACH won twice last autumn at this venue although she ran a shade below her best when failing in a hat-trick bid over course and distance in early-November.

She might have been feeling the effects of a busy spell however in that run given that it was her ninth run in five months and he was given three months off.

The Dawn Approach filly disappointed again on her return over one mile here, but has since run well on both starts over course and distance which includes a win over Pak Army in February and being beaten only a half-length into third latest behind Sayesse earlier this month.

Richard O’Brien’s charge can race off the same mark here and with a 3lbs claimer in the saddle she could get back on the scoresheet for our Dundalk racing tips and having struck her last win under this rider so she could be worth sticking with.

4:30 – Easter Week Racing 15th & 19th April Handicap (4yo+) 6f

POET’S PRIDE showed a fair level of form for David Barron prior to his Irish switch and the Arcano gelding could be worth chancing to follow up his recent course win over Mulzamm.

David Marnane’s charge wasn’t seen at his best on his first couple of outings for his new yard; but having run a more encouraging race over seven furlongs here in Feburary behind Major Power he stepped up on the run to score latest by a half-length where he travelled well into the contest and found plenty.

He’s been raised 4lbs for that win and so will need a career-best effort to defy his new mark; but the drop to sprinting could prove to be a shrewd move and he could make his presence felt here.

5:00 – Ladies Day Sunday 12th July Handicap (3yo) 6f

LADY ALCAZAR appeared to benefit from the drop in trip when last seen, finishing just over one length fourth behind Mecklenburg over course and distance back in January and the Epaulette filly could be worth chancing to improve on that position.

Thomas Cleary’s charge did well to finish where he did given he was drawn in the car-park and suffered an early bump; but she ran on well in the straight from a poor position and while she wasn’t able to get close to the winner it was a solid run in the circumstances.

The runner-up from that outing has filled the same berth in two subsequent outings so the form has been upheld and she now finds herself handicapping in what looks a winnable contest from a mark that could leave her with scope to do better.

A repeat of that latest run should put her in the mix here and she can remain competitive with the potential to improve further where she rates a decent Dundalk racing tips each-way betting chance in the finale to the racecard.
