FRIDAY IRISH RACING TIPS – BEST BETS AT LIMERICK & DOWN ROYAL
1:50 Down Royal – Armatas Fire & Security Ltd Maiden Hurdle (5yo+) 2m½f
COTTIE showed some fair form in bumpers last term for Tom Taaffe, including contested a Listed bumper prior to joining Henry De Bromhead and the Yeats mare shaped well on her hurdles debut at Kilbeggan earlier in the month where she finished six lengths’ runner-up behind Daicheadacuig.
That was her first start in more than five months so she was entitled to have needed the outing and the experience; but she could build on both here to go one better under Mikey O’Connor who can use his full 7lbs this time around.
Further progress should see her firmly in the mix again in this maiden contest and she can get off the mark at the second attempt over hurdles.
4:05 Down Royal – Island Garden Rooms Handicap Hurdle (4yo+) 2m4½f
ISOTOPE has hit the crossbar the last twice, most recently ten days ago when beaten only by Fest Deiz at Roscommon and Joseph O’Brien’s charge is chanced to go one better.
The Footstepsinthesand gelding had been beaten only a head by the same rival the time before at Tipperary and he possibly just did too much last time out having raced keenly; he could do better if settling down this time and while 3lbs higher this time he ought to remain competitive with Hugh Morgan continuing to take 5lbs off his back.
Another good run wouldn’t come as a surprise and he can make his presence felt again with another solid effort.
5:25 Limerick – Adare Fillies Race (3yo) 1m
It might be worth chancing ESPOUSE to follow up her latest success at Naas last month and the Elusive Pimpernel filly can improve further.
Jessica Harrington’s charge raced just once last term, held back by inexperience at Naas in September but she showed improved form latest to get off the mark in a first-time hood when beating reopposing Frill over this longer trip and she could repeat the dose here.
The front two pulled clear but she won in the manner of a progressive sort who likely has more to come and the form of that win has been boosted with the runner-up, fourth and fifth horses all winning since.
She could prove a smart sort and if handling the quicker ground here ought to go close.
6:00 Limerick – Martin Molony Stakes (Listed Race) (3yo+) 1m4½f
SONNYBOYLISTON won three times last term and Johnny Murtagh’s charge can get off the mark for the season after a couple of good runs in defeat at Naas and Chester latest where he finished four lengths behind Japan in the Ormonde Stakes.
The Power gelding was building on his seasonal return which looked needed behind Broome in a Listed contest and this drop back in trip could suit having perhaps just failed to see out the longer distance last time.
Quicker ground is unlikely to present an issue and he sets a decent standard on his form to date so should take some beating here for his in-form yard.
