SLIGO TIPS FOR TUESDAY – BEST BETS FOR THE DAY’S IRISH HORSE RACING
4:45 Sligo – Enniscrone Mares Maiden Hurdle (4yo+) 2m1½f
DONTHAVETIME can pick up an ordinary race and Jessica Harrington’s charge can go close here.
The Westerner mare showed some ability in bumpers and having shaped well on her first hurdles start at Navan where she finished runner-up she was in the process of running a big race at this venue earlier in the month when falling at the last.
She was held at the time but would certainly have made the frame again behind Faith Du Val and if that mishap hasn’t left a mark then she could get off the mark this time around in a race that lacks depth.
5:15 Sligo – Streedagh Beach Handicap Hurdle (4yo+ 80-102) 2m1½f
BUTO ran his best race to date over hurdles when finishing fourth behind Persia at Bellewstown in July and it may be worth chancing John McConnell’s charge now he goes handicapping to find some further improvement.
The Nathaniel gelding was beaten around 20 lengths on that occasion where he wasn’t helped by making a bad mistake four out when still very much in contention and he never recovered from that error although he did run on again but had no chance with the winner.
Now tried in a tongue-tie as he switches to handicapping it could be that a mark of 97 proves workable and the headgear can produce some further improvement so no surprise to see an improved effort here.
5:45 Sligo – Drumcliffe Maiden Hurdle (4yo+) 2m4½f
This is a race that shouldn’t take a great deal of winning and it is interesting connections persevere with VALLEY BREEZE who has been off the track for days short of two years.
Willie Mullins’ charge showed ability in some strong bumper contests prior to tackling hurdles for the first time at this venue back in August 2019, finishing fourth behind Unexpected Depth although beaten a long way.
The front three ahead of him are all multiple winners since and while the Sunday Break gelding does have fitness to prove he may prove a tough nut to crack on his return assuming nothing untoward.
6:15 Sligo – Mullaghmore Beach Handicap Hurdle (4yo+ 80-102) 2m4½f
The fitting of a tongue-tie has been a revelation for NUTTORRIDGE who has proven progressive over hurdles since the headgear went on and Mark Michael McNiff’s charge can follow up his breakthrough victory here.
The Elusive Pimpernel gelding had made the frame in three prior outings over hurdles in the headgear when making the breakthrough at Downpatrick earlier in the month with a five lengths’ defeat of No Logic and a subsequent 8lbs rise in the weights could prove workable given he may have more improvement to come.
His earlier run at Ballinrobe has been franked with the winner going in again since and he can make his presence felt.
