Form & Verdict
The most recent of his five wins came in the 2024 Lincoln on soft; left the impression his first start for 324 days was needed when sixth of 13 at Thirsk (1m, good) on his stable debut in May but this C&D winner has been off again since.

Has won on firm but best form on soft, as when winning the Lincoln (1m) in 2024; lightly raced with little return since but he was hampered on Newcastle AW last June; entitled to be rusty for new trainer on this first run since; missed a race earlier this month due to good to firm ground.

Often front-runner but not when he won twice on the AW last August, including here over 7f; 8lb above the most recent success but he gave it a good go from the front when third at Ayr (1m, good) 11 days ago; has to be considered.

Gave it a good go from the front at Southwell (7f; fine at 1m) recently but he's been found wanting a few times since his last win, off 7lb lower on the AW last August; rain is forecast and he's unraced on ground slower than good.

Things didn't pan out his way when among the favourites for a Kempton handicap early in the month, back from a break; better than that and is 1-1 on Tapeta having won here last summer; one to consider.

Form & Verdict
Won twice on the AW in December, including in a Southwell handicap off a 6lb lower mark than today's, and posted an improved effort when third of nine in a conditions event over this C&D in March; disappointed on turf at Epsom (1m2f, soft) when last seen 74 days ago but makes appeal back on the AW in first-time cheekpieces having been gelded.

Unraced on softer than good; found serious improvement over 7f/1m on AW but, although running respectably, he's not transferred the best of that form to 1m turf handicaps on last two outings; worth a go at this new trip.

Form & Verdict
Fifth in the Convivial Maiden at York last August when trained by John & Sean Quinn but couldn't build on that on his stable debut at Redcar (7f, good to soft) next time and was tailed off at Pontefract (1m2f, good) in April; has since been gelded and has cheekpieces applied for his AW/handicap debut.

Promising debut in a traditionally strong York maiden last August (7f, good to firm; trained by John and Sean Quinn); couldn't build on it on a slower surface at Redcar in October (stable debut); remains with potential and this trip should suit on pedigree.

160,000gns yearling; in these colours but with the Quinns when a massive eyecatcher in the prestigious Convivial Maiden at York in August (7f, good to firm), in which he suffered early interference before keeping on takingly for fifth; that form has worked out well.

Form & Verdict
Caused a 40-1 surprise when winning in first-time blinkers at Sandown (1m2f, good) in June and backed that up when caught on the post at Wolverhampton (8.5f, AW); well drawn and there's no obvious reason why he can't go well.

Ran poorly at Kempton last August in his only AW race; resumed progress with his turf form on latest outing, winning a 12-runner handicap at Sandown (1m2f, good) five weeks ago when 40-1 in first-time blinkers; up 4lb but that was a warm race and he'll go well if this surface proves no impediment.

Narrowly made a successful nursery debut at Salisbury (7f, heavy) last September and ran well on similar ground at Doncaster (7f) the following month, but having been gelded he was well held on last month's Nottingham reappearance (1m, good to soft); blinkers given a go, but not certain to appreciate the longer trip.

Doubled his tally when narrowly winning over 1m at Newcastle last month and followed up with another narrow AW success here over 7f in first-time cheekpieces two weeks ago; they are now discarded but he's shortlisted off this 4lb higher mark.

Has been racing over further since making a successful handicap debut/reappearance at Lingfield (7f, Polytrack) in April, narrowly regaining winning form at Newcastle (1m, Tapeta) 11 days ago; only 2lb higher and return to this trip shouldn't be an issue; cheekpieces given a go.

Verdict

Last week’s course winner Percy’s Lad wasn’t so good at Wolverhampton yesterday evening. Lucky Camino (second choice) remains open to further progress but the vote goes to LAKE COMO (nap) who has been gelded since disappointing on soft ground at Epsom in June and looks interesting back on the AW. Victory Ace is up another 4lb and now bids for a hat-trick, with Chapter and Breakdancer also considered. [Harry March]
