Wins in Bahrain (6f, good to firm) and at Ascot (5f, good to firm) this summer; stiff task under a penalty in the Stewards' Cup 18 days ago and ran respectably in midfield; the Ascot form makes him of interest and he could prove suited by this intermediate trip; whether his high draw proves beneficial remains to be seen though.

Would have finished closer than tenth in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot (6f) granted a clear run; scaled new heights when beating his 14 rivals there (5f, also good to firm) three weeks ago, finishing his race off strongly; 3lb wrong under his penalty today and while he has more good races in him, this one might prove too demanding.

6f win in Bahrain in April; shaped well at Chester (5f, good) on his return to Britain and again when tenth in the Wokingham, a race where he would have finished closer with a clear run; looks the type to win a nice prize this year but his low draw may be a disadvantage.

Looked one to follow when bolting up at Wolverhampton (6f, AW) in December and, after a series of misfortunes befell him early in the year, things have finally clicked this summer; saw off his 20 rivals over 6f here last month and then went down all guns blazing in the Stewards' Cup; another 3lb higher today but may not have reached his ceiling; high draw could be a negative.

Successful in 5f handicaps twice last September having moved to Ed Bethell; beaten favourite on his first three starts this year, including here, but still ran to a useful level; managed to put his head in front, just, at Hamilton (5f, good) 18 days ago and although a 3lb rise didn't look overly generous, the third has won since; still has potential after just nine runs.

Won the 3yo Dash at Epsom (5f, good) last term and fourth in the older-horse version this season; just as effective at 6f and she never got a chance to show her true colours last time at Chester; lacking course experience is not ideal but she's not dismissed.

Won the 3yo Dash at Epsom (5f, good) last June and left reappearance behind when good fourth of 20 in the Dash there (5f, good to soft) three weeks ago; just as effective at 6f and can play a prominent role from an unchanged mark.

Form & Verdict
Won a 5f handicap at last season's Dante meeting here and confirmed the track suited him well when collared late by Trefor in this race 12 months ago; 3lb lower this time around and he has done enough in 2026 to think he retains all his ability; trainer is making a name for himself in the big sprint handicaps and it's likely this has been the main aim all summer; big chance if getting it right at the start.

Back from a break and wind surgery when impressive in a big field at York in May 2024 (5f, good to firm; 7lb lower); however, failed to fire at Meydan this year and was again down the field at Newcastle a month ago; cheekpieces replace a hood.

Looked a smart prospect last season, beating his 21 rivals at York's Dante meeting and second of 20 at the Ebor meeting; not at his best in three runs in Dubai but this mark should be in range and he has won on Tapeta and after a break; goes without accessories (usually hooded) today; interesting for a yard in form.

Form & Verdict
Course winner last month but has done all his winning at Class 4 level or lower; likely vulnerable in a race of this nature.

In and out this season but has gained 5f wins at Musselburgh (good) and York (good to firm); not entirely disgraced in big field at Goodwood last time and could make his presence felt.

Made the most of a drop in grade to edge home in a Class 4 at York 18 days ago (5f, good to firm) and went up only 3lb for that; however, he's by no means certain to repeat that effort and he lacks course experience.

Form & Verdict
Won a local Group 1 in Bahrain in January but got clobbered by the handicapper as a result; slipping back to a more realistic mark but drawn highest and others bring much more pressing claims.

Verdict

Winners have come from all across the track in the big-field sprints here this year but the inclination is to side with those more towards the far side. That may count against last year’s winner Trefor who is berthed in stall 20, but The Man (second choice) and Air Force One, the pair to chase him home in 2025, make plenty of appeal. The Man has been building up to something bigger and this has likely been the main target all summer, so he is not opposed lightly, but TOCA MADERA (nap) shaped so well in the Stewards’ Cup that he earns preference. Corolla Point should also run well, with Spartan Arrow the most interesting of those at bigger prices.[Paul Smith]
