Placed off today's mark behind two progressive 3yos at Wolverhampton (1m4f, AW) last month and may benefit from this drop back in trip but still needs to prove she's fully effective on turf.

Made all for clearcut success on handicap debut here (9.4f) in January and came second on both subsequent AW starts (9.4f/1m4f); absent since lesser effort on turf two months ago and her tendency to race too freely is a nagging concern but this return to Tapeta is sure to suit and she remains unexposed over the trip.

Improved with the switch to handicaps and AW with a win at Wolverhampton (9.4f) in January and seconds there and at Lingfield (1m4f) this spring; player if that form is transferred to turf.

Not beaten far when third of four at Newmarket (1m4f, good to firm) nine days ago and is now back on same mark as for close second of 15 over that trip at Newbury (good) in May; should be okay back at 1m2f; considered.

On same mark as when dead-heating at Southwell (1m4f, AW) last April but he's 0-15 since; finished runner-up in a big field at Newbury (1m4f, good) in May but he's hard to predict and was never involved at Ascot last time; comes with risks attached.

Last won when sharing the spoils at Southwell (1m4f, AW) in April 2025; close second of 15 at Newbury (1m4f, good) in May was his best show this season and he acts on good to firm, but others are preferred for win purposes; this is a very rare run in headgear.

Unplaced last five starts, not really finishing his races; carries obvious risks but his three turf wins came over 1m on good to firm ground and he now returns after a wind operation; he's well handicapped if the surgery has had a positive effect.

Form & Verdict
Suffered dip in form after beginning season with 1m4f AW win off today's mark (wore cheekpieces) but only faded out of contention in closing stages when third of five at Epsom (1m4f, good to firm; no headgear) last month; 1m2f also suits and she seems versatile ground-wise; can go well in refitted cheekpieces.

Verdict

It’s hard to build a watertight case for any of these but TWILIGHT MOON arguably ran better than the bare form suggests when third of five at Epsom last month and, with headgear refitted, she might be the answer. Something Splendid (second choice) will be suited by the forecast rain and is a more speculative alternative to consider, while Triple Double A will a appreciate this ease in grade and Rose Cotton has claims if able to transfer her AW form to turf.[Chris Wilson]
