Form & Verdict
Bumped and fell at first fence on recent reappearance at Kelso; three wins (on good and soft ground) during last season's novice chase campaign, the highlight a dominant show in the Grade 2 Reynoldstown over 3m at Ascot in February; major player if at the top of his game.

Very useful staying chaser when on song and has pretty good record at Cheltenham; pulled up at Exeter two starts ago and didn't find much at the business end when third of four at Carlisle (3m, good) last month but it won't be a surprise if he runs a big race here.

Form & Verdict
Won the Grade 2 Pendil Novices' Chase at Kempton (2m4f, good to soft) in February and reappeared with a comfortable win in an intermediate chase at Newton Abbot (2m5f, good) three weeks ago; has run well on heavy ground over hurdles; unraced beyond 2m5f but there's every chance this will be within range and he holds leading claims if seeing it out.

11yo who looked as good as ever when runner-up in a captivating battle with Jonbon in the Ascot Chase (2m5f, good to soft) in February, when bidding to win that Grade 1 for the third consecutive year; won the Grade 1 Melling Chase here (2m4f, soft) in 2023; seemed fine at 3m when 1l second in this season's Charlie Hall (good) and his trainer has won this race six times; no surprise to see a bold bid from this front-runner, who is not ruled out.

Smart front-runner whose record of 5-9 over fences at Ascot features emphatic wins in this race for the last two years (good/good to soft; has scored on soft); had excuses (soon taken on for lead, race possibly came too soon after reappearance) over C&D in November when last seen, failing to land the 1965 Chase for a third time; perhaps best caught fresh nowadays and, assuming he's able to dominate, commands respect in another hat-trick attempt.

Multiple Grade 2 chase winner who has also won three Grade 1s (good-soft), the latest being the 2m5f Ascot Chase in February; this 10yo is unproven beyond that trip and unraced over 3m, but there's every chance he'll stay and he goes well fresh; key player under 6lb penalty if seeing it out.

Form & Verdict
Pulled up in the Scottish National in April last time out but enjoyed a solid novice chase campaign otherwise, with two wins (2m7f, good to soft/heavy; unraced on good), including on his reappearance; returns with stable in good form and, receiving 6lb from the top two, a case can be made.

No win since January 2022; shaped reasonably well when third at Uttoxeter (3m, soft) in December but lesser efforts at Haydock and Plumpton since temper enthusiasm; first run since January.

Returned to form when keeping on for third at Uttoxeter (3m, soft) in early December but failed to really build on that when a well-held fourth at Haydock three weeks later, albeit in a higher grade; hasn't won for three years but he's plied his trade at a higher level for some time and could find life easier contesting a class 4 with a capable 7lb-claiming amateur booked.

Easily made all in Fontwell handicap (3m2f, good) in August and has continued in good heart; receives plenty of weight from the males but she nevertheless has something to find against some classy opponents.

No surprise if sent off hard having made all over more than a mile further in August, and effectiveness on soft was proven during her pointing and bumper days; more exposed than most here as a chaser, however, having been held off a low-120s official mark in handicaps most recently.

Verdict

The Paul Nicholls-trained PIC D’ORHY holds leading form claims having won the Grade 2 Pendil Novices’ Chase over 2m4f at Kempton in February, and there’s every chance he’ll see out this new trip. Does He Know, another Grade 2 novice chase winner, is second choice ahead of Fantastikas.[Ben Hutton]
