Came good over fences with consecutive wins on soft ground in February/March (3m1f/2m7f); made low-key reappearance over C&D last month but no surprise if his progress resumes now he has the outing under his belt.

On a career-low mark but very evident that he's not the force of old and the return of cheekpieces did nothing last time; perhaps blinkers will help, as they did aboard the stable's Cheltenham winner Martator.

Lightly raced in recent years and patently not the force of old but ran well for a long way in Exeter marathon (3m6f, soft) in December and competes off another career-low mark here; cheekpieces (worn regularly in France in 2019) are given another go; not ruled out.

Won novice handicap chases at Hereford (3m1f, soft) and Newbury (2m7f, soft) in 2022 but hasn't won since, although a couple of fair efforts, including over 3m4f last term; on a good mark and could go well.

Quickly developed into very useful novice chaser for Caroline Bailey in 2019-20, but became disappointing the following season and today's stable debut comes after a 587-day absence; current ability tricky to gauge.

Pulled up twice this season but was badly hampered on reappearance and never on an even keel after early mistakes at Warwick last time; far from disgraced over 3m4f here in between; returning to 3m should suit and he's been given a big chance by the handicapper; interesting at likely lengthy odds.

Form & Verdict
Seemed to benefit significantly from combination of return to 3m, switch to chasing and fitting of tongue-tie/cheekpieces when winning easily over C&D (heavy) on seasonal/stable debut a fortnight ago; went up 10lb for that but could quite plausibly display further improvement over fences for David Pipe.

Staged a major revival last May/June and finished well for close third in veterans' event at Sandown (3m) in November, but not so good on latest start; pulled up on both attempts at about 3m5f/3m6f, admittedly two winters back but a stronger promise of stamina would be preferred.

Would probably prefer slower ground and he got outpaced before running on to finish third over 3m1f at Aintree the final time (good; second run for this yard); looks vulnerable for win purposes and he's 1lb wrong at the weights.

Pulled up on final three starts for David Pipe in 2023-24 season but, following a layoff, was in process of running well for new stable before chance-ending jumping error in home straight at Ludlow (3m1f, good to soft) in December; not seen again since and not sure to be ideally suited by the faster ground here but remains well handicapped on old form.

Low-mileage 6yo who chased home a very progressive subsequent winner on seasonal/chase debut at Uttoxeter (2m6f, good) in October; didn't really build on that performance when third of five at Sandown (2m4f, soft) last month but still has potential.

Won small-field hunter chases on good ground at Catterick (3m1f) and Ludlow (2m4f) last month; lost out to only the odds-on favourite at Kempton (2m4f, good) three weeks ago and, although the scale of his defeat was a bit worrying, his good record here (won the last three of his four visits) bolsters his chance today.

Made very rapid progress when switched to fences last year, winning three times (3m-3m1f, good to soft-heavy), but not seen since pulled up on consecutive outings at start of this year (hurdle/chase); may yet have further improvement to come but others in this line-up have less to prove.

Verdict

Fuji Flight (second choice) is back on a workable mark and can pose a threat if last month’s C&D run has brought him on, but a recent 10lb rise may not stop ONLY THE BOLD (nap) who was in command before the turn for home and won very easily over C&D on his recent stable/chase debut. Captain Tommy needs to stage a revival but he runs this track well and looks quite interesting on his debut for Ian Williams.[Chris Wilson]
