Sole chase win came in 2m7f beginners' here last season but some fine runs in competitive handicaps, fourth in last season's bet365 Gold Cup and this term when second in 2m6f handicap here and most notably chasing clear leader when blundering last in 4m2f Aintree National and weakening late on when fifth of 16 finishers (good-to-soft); tendency to jump left is a negative but could go well if putting it all together here (in-form rider's claim a positive). |

One positive is his staying-on third over an extended 3m4f in the bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown (good; 5lb higher today) last April; another is that he's trained by Willie Mullins, who described him in November as likely to be "an ideal type for the Grand National"; after a solid reappearance, he's been pulled up in good handicaps on his last two outings but both were in the mud and he got loose before the latest, which presumably didn't help. |

Useful jumper; eighth at 33-1 in last year's Cesarewitch, when never dangerous on soft going and it looks like that surface was not ideal, as he runs far more often on good ground and drew 8l clear over C&D in the Cesarewitch Trial three weeks ago; well handicapped with just a 4lb penalty, for trainer who won this with a 7yo in 2022. |

Any horse in these colours worth a second look here, and one presumes this has been the plan; useful Flat and hurdles performer and won 2m6f hurdle on this card in 2024; held in novice company last year after winning on chase debut at Down Royal; third over inadequate 2m on handicap debut at Wexford; better for that run and ground and trip to suit, albeit he's up in grade a good bit. |
