Form & Verdict
Made no further progress after last December's breakthrough win at Catterick (3m1f, soft) but signed off with good third off today's mark at Ffos Las (3m1f, good) in April and resumes in an easier race.

His second win over fences when a clearcut winner at Warwick (3m, good) but only fourth here next time and behind Galloping Pride; did make a bad mistake four out that day which didn't help.

Form & Verdict
Went close in Plumpton maiden hurdle (2m4f, good to soft) in December 2021 and was very respectable third on handicap debut at Warwick (3m2f, heavy) later that month; makes chasing debut after 663-day absence but has been given a good chance by the handicapper.

Didn't take to fences and was having his second start back over hurdles when winning by 7l at Plumpton (3m1f, good) a fortnight ago; wouldn't have won by so far had his nearest pursuer not fallen two out and he is now 7lb higher, but still high on the list based on that performance.

Form & Verdict
Last season's record was rather mixed but he won a much stronger race than this at Wincanton (3m1f, good to soft) on Boxing Day and is only 3lb higher now; will be a tough nut to crack if on song after his break.

Ended last season in excellent form, completing a hat-trick with clearcut success at Exeter (3m6f, heavy), but made nothing better than a satisfactory reappearance in October and was pulled up in Welsh Grand National on only subsequent appearance; still on a fairly tough mark and needs to get back in the groove.

Ended last season in excellent form on heavy ground in blinkers, winning twice over 3m1f at Wincanton before drawing 6l clear over an extended 3m6f at Exeter; should have come on markedly since October reappearance and this is only his second run over a marathon trip; could have more to offer, though seemingly the deeper the ground the better it is for him.

Form & Verdict
Ran very poorly on handicap hurdle debut in June and is effectively 4lb higher from out of the weights here; remains unexposed but switches to fences with quite a bit to prove; visor removed after one use.

Maiden with very modest form, but this lightly raced 6yo was a fair third at Sedgefield (2m3f, soft) last Wednesday and is not discounted.

Unplaced all six starts under rules, the last twice over fences; only beaten about 15l when seventh at Ludlow (2m4f, soft) in December and effectively 7lb lower today; needs to improve but trainer has good strike-rate here (21%) and the booking of Brian Hughes is a plus.

Form & Verdict
Made the frame in three consecutive chases when fitted with cheekpieces in early part of this year but suffered alarming dip in form on final three starts last season; 10lb out of the weights here; needs to have been revitalised by six-month break.

Very inconsistent 10yo who sometimes races lazily and is never easy to predict; comes here fresh and on career-low mark but has presumably been overlooked by Sean Bowen today and cannot be supported with much confidence; versatile ground-wise.

Verdict

Pilot Show ended last season with a good effort but it might be worth chancing SANDY BROOK, who makes his chasing debut after a long absence but is now 10lb lower than when running pretty well on his handicap hurdle debut, and can hopefully make up for lost time.[Chris Wilson]
