Form & Verdict
Won a Taunton juvenile hurdle (2m, good to soft) last December; comfortably held in fourth in a mares' novice chase at Worcester (2m4f, good to soft) on her penultimate start and never involved in a Listed mares' chase latest; this is no easy return to hurdles.

Hurdle winner in 2022 (2m, good to soft) who comes into it on the pick of her chase form, a close second at Exeter (2m1f, soft) in late 2023; has to show that drying ground suits but she's entitled to have a say after needing her comeback run following an absence.

Form & Verdict
Has won both a mares' bumper (good) and mares' novice hurdle (2m, soft); best effort when second at Kelso (2m, soft; first-time cheekpieces) in March; not seen since April but not ruled out on her reappearance.

Two hurdle wins at about 2m1f this year (soft and good ground), lifting her level at Doncaster in March; had some relatively quiet runs since but looked on the way back at Newcastle recently, is on winning mark and Harry Cobden up for the first time; yard won this in 2020.

Form & Verdict
Dual novice chase winner at Catterick (2m3f, good to soft); readily added a hurdle win at Market Rasen (2m2f, good to soft) in August when 16lb lower than today; keeps eeking out a bit more and bumped into an improver over C&D latest; up 2lb; player.

Tailed off at Market Rasen in November and same story at Catterick last month on her sole run since; however, she may have needed that latest outing and runs off the same mark as for her win at Sedgefield (2m4f, good) in September; yard's horses are running well and she's not discounted.

Tailed off at Market Rasen in November last time, but she'd enjoyed a predominantly consistent spell previously and maybe a break will have helped; has won here twice over fences; not ruled out on her return.

Reliable 9yo who won at Sedgefield (2m5f, soft) in November and ran respectably on most recent start when a 13l fourth of nine here (2m6f, good; reapplied visor, retained) in June, shaping as though she'd be worth a try over this longer trip; needs considering off 2lb lower.

Did pretty well to score at Sedgefield (2m5f, soft) in November, having been hampered by You Some Girl's penultimate-flight fall, and is only 2lb higher here; also suited by good ground but has a point to prove after last month's poor Flat run.

Form & Verdict
Won back-to-back hurdle races at up to 2m1f on good ground when with Neil Mulholland; best form would give her a chance from this mark but she hasn't been at that level since January; 7lb out of the handicap.

Verdict

Another potentially trappy contest, with last-time course winner Joie De Vivre respected and Ravenscar (next best) back on his last winning mark. Midnight Shuffle is not ruled out, despite having fitness to prove, but there are no such concerns for the admirable SPOT ON SOPH, who keeps finding extra this season and is selected in the hope that she can do so again.[Jonathan Doidge]
