Three wins from five starts over hurdles and he made it 2-2 in points when making all at Larkhill (3m) on his comeback in December; had tough task in Grade 2 on only previous run over regulation fences and he's respected on this hunter chase debut; his three rules wins have been on good to soft/soft.

Very lightly raced 8yo who launched rules career with two novice hurdle wins in 2022-23 season but disappointed in both chases during following campaign and, after a long absence, was soundly beaten on handicap hurdle debut in November; current ability hard to gauge.

Verdict

Doyen Star and Givega (preferred in that order) were rather disappointing in the same Grade 2 novice chase at Wincanton last month but both were very promising novice hurdlers last season and remain interesting prospects over fences. However, the safest option is SIR PSYCHO, who had evidently been refreshed by a change of regime before his emphatic win at Ascot five weeks ago.[Chris Wilson]
