Heavy-ground 2m hurdle winner when with Dan Skelton; changed hands for 1,000gns since being beaten more than 16l in a Stratford seller in March; 2lb lower for chase debut but can only suggest a watching brief at present.

Started the season with a good 2m4f Uttoxeter fourth but he's been pulled up all three starts since in handicaps from 2m4f to 3m; in top hands but is hard to warm to despite the drop in grade.

Good fourth on seasonal debut at Uttoxeter (2m4f, good) but ought to have been suited by the soft ground when pulled up on consecutive outings towards end of last year (2m4f/2m6f); tries a new trip here; needs three-month break to have done him good.

Failed to make an impact in his three Irish maiden points last spring and sold for £8,500 last May; however, he's joined an up-and-coming trainer for his rules career and it will be interesting to see how he goes in the betting; wears a hood.

Verdict

Habibi was placed in a big field at Newbury last month and will have obvious claims if she runs here (she’s also declared at Lingfield) but an interesting alternative is Irish-trained newcomer REAL EMPIRE, who is out of a Listed German Flat winner. Winning pointer Disco Davis makes his debut for Dan Skelton and is also on the shortlist.[Chris Wilson]
