Form & Verdict
Winning debut on heavy and went close in 5f Listed contest on soft in May; had tough assignments since, including over 6f in August, but even so he hasn't looked on his game and gelded since; visored latest but not today; this is more realistic.

Started off for Lemos De Sousa with two encouraging AW runs in the spring (5f/6f) and can be excused this month's turf defeat (suffered interference); would appeal more on ground slower than good but has slipped to a tempting mark and may be aided by the refitted blinkers.

Patchy after a debut win (heavy) last spring and been tried in various forms of headgear; not beaten far in a couple of AW handicaps in the spring, when having excuses each time, and won't mind any rain.

Form & Verdict
Acted well on good to soft (unraced on slower) when beating a subsequent winner at Yarmouth (7f) in August; hard to restrain upped to 1m at Doncaster (good) since and it said a lot for his ability that he was a close second; interesting back at 6f if coping with the ground; yard in fine form.

Record of 3-14 for James Owen, reaching a useful standard but proving rather difficult to place after the third success ruined his mark; sold for 52,000gns and gelded since last run; probably still too high in the weights for this level of competition.

Ran creditably, despite 6f looking inadequate, in York Listed race last time; gained his last win in C&D conditions race at the Craven meeting; could go well in new headgear returned to this scenario.

Form & Verdict
All races at 6f in novice events, winning at Newbury (good to firm) in June; no further progress since and has to prove herself on a new surface now handicapping.

Back to the same career-low mark she cashed in on in first-time blinkers at Goodwood in June (6f, good), progress having stalled again since; holds Connie's Rose and Papabella on last month's Leicester clash, albeit she was fairly well held herself; place rather than win claims.

Below her best in one run on good to soft and was taken out on account of soft ground early in the month, so could do with some drying weather; proved consistent since blinkers went on but needs to find a bit more from somewhere.

Form & Verdict
Should be quite favourably treated on his 6f form at Windsor (good) in May but he's been well held in two handicaps, beaten from over 2f out when upped to 7f (soft) on latest start; questioned for now.

Won at Thirsk (6f, good) last June before following up at Chester (6f, good) a week later; well beaten in the Ayr Bronze Cup on his final start for Hugo Palmer and he beat only one rival home at Bath on his stable debut 27 days ago; visor back on (replacing cheekpieces worn last time).

Ended last season with a heavy defeat in the Ayr Bronze Cup but he did well for Hugo Palmer last summer including a brave win off this mark at Chester (6f, good); returns in new headgear for new yard but he went close on his reappearance last term and he needs watching in market.

Form & Verdict
Only just lost out in his only handicap, over 6f at York (good to soft), and was found a good opportunity when making all in a Ffos Las maiden (6f, heavy) in August; ability to handle testing ground is a big plus; good chance back in a handicap.

Needs to rebound, having been disappointing at Pontefract last week; scored comfortably in Ffos Las maiden (6f, heavy) the time before and a reproduction of that form would put him in the mix.

Verdict

Pellitory looked a real handful in the early stages of his recent venture over 1m at Doncaster and he did well to have the reserves to finish as close as he did. He looks well worth another shot at 6f but SIR PALAMEDES has the advantage of having proved himself in the mud and is preferred. The remainder are more difficult to make cases for but Rock Hunter has nothing to prove on this surface and has been gelded since his latest run.[Emily Weber]
