Ran in two 5f novice events on Wolverhampton Tapeta last month; led final 1f last time and asserted despite flashing his tail; should stay 6f; open to further improvement and one to consider seriously despite his penalty.

Form & Verdict
6-1, soon ridden but made late gains and beaten little more than 3l when seventh of 12 in maiden at Lingfield (6f, AW) three weeks ago; should be fitter and wiser with that under his belt, which puts him on the shortlist.

Ten-race maiden who can take a strong hold but he's finished runner-up in last four starts and he ran into a handicap blot at Salisbury (1m2f, soft; first-time visor) last Saturday; was no match for the winner in that race but he pulled clear of the third and still looks on a workable mark; key player.

Doesn't help himself by racing too freely and remains a maiden after nine runs but came second three times last month (8.3f-1m2f, good to firm) and is likely to be right in the thick of things again here; swaps cheekpieces for first-time visor; handles good to soft, unraced on anything slower.

C&D winner; consistent in defeat on AW before making a successful return to turf at Nottingham (5f, good) 19 days ago, with reopposing Dc Cogent and Marajito behind in third and fifth; did that quite comfortably but a 6lb rise puts him 3lb above his highest win mark of 66; has also yet to score back-to-back in his 41-race career.

Has reached the frame on AW in his last six starts including when a close second at Newcastle (5f; tongue-tie added) last month; record of 1-21 on turf but conditions should be fine back in this sphere and he had a close call off 1lb higher at Beverley last summer; interesting contender for yard that has won this race in the last two years.

Three of his four wins have come over C&D; not beaten far at Southwell on his last two starts; dropped another 1lb and he's a leading contender back at this track; stable runs three here.

First foal; dam 5f/5.5f winner (including 2yo/Listed; RPR 101), half-sister to useful 5f/6f winner Red Pike and Listed-placed 5f 2yo winner Dom Carlos; from a strong yard, she is very much one to note.

Hello Queen

Two AW wins early in the year, one over C&D; made a winning turf debut at Doncaster in July and she ran well for third in a strong fillies' handicap at Pontefract in September (6f, good to soft); still open to improvement after just six runs and her rivals would be wise not to allow her too much rope up front.

Made it three wins from five starts when making all on her handicap and turf debut at Doncaster (6f, soft) in July last time out; this well-bred 3yo could still have more to offer and she's a strong contender up 4lb.

Only raced on Tapeta so far, winning 6f novices at Wolverhampton in January and Newcastle in March; out of her depth in a valuable conditions event at the latter track the following month and now makes her handicap/turf debut after 111 days off; market may be helpful.

21,000gns yearling; seventh foal; half-sister to four winners up to 1m1f, including Hong Kong Harry (6f-1m1f including 2yo/AW/US Grade 2; RPR 114) and Body Sculpt (Listed-placed 1m; 98); dam Listed-placed 1m 2yo winner (93), half-sister to 5f Group 2 winner Pradaro; plenty there to earn a close look on this debut for powerful yard.

Form & Verdict
Runner-up over 5f in five of her eight starts (turf/AW) and was beaten by a neck or shorter on four occasions; well below form at Kempton (second attempt at 6f) 11 days ago, however, and recent cheekpieces are now replaced by blinkers; the pick on her best form but the doubts have crept in.

Regularly placed as a 2yo but she ended that campaign with two lacklustre efforts and was again well short of her best when sixth of seven at Windsor on her return to action this month; something to prove for now.

Runner-up in five of her nine starts as a 2yo, showing her best form over 5f on fast ground; wore headgear for final four starts in 2022 and goes without today; good claims if at her best but vulnerable to an improver.

Verdict

Patience in Tephi has worn thin and while Great State needs plenty of respect, he has his penalty for the Wolverhampton win. A chance is therefore taken that AL MUZN will prove much more street-wise now that he has a run under his belt. He seemed to be getting the lesson late in the day at Lingfield. Newcomers Hello Queen and Singapore Sally are well related and hail from powerful yards, so they are feared most.[Richard Austen]
