Smart over 7f/1m in 2021 and on sole outing in 2022, including on heavy going; absent 14 months before this season and hasn't been at his best but still holds an each-way chance in this field.

Unraced on heavy ground but ran well on officially very soft in France last year and his remote fourth of 11 at Ascot (his only run on soft ground) 11 days ago came when 40-1 in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes; major chance judged on best form efforts.

Form & Verdict
Over two years without a win before he justified favouritism in good style over C&D three weeks ago and that leaves him with a 2-2 record on heavy going; this company is much more demanding, though.

Form & Verdict
Runner-up in Group 3 at Newbury (7f, heavy) on final start as a 2yo and beaten a nose in Listed race at Sandown (1m, good to soft) this May; not seen again until fair third of six in handicap at Goodwood (1m, soft) 17 days ago, which he needs to build on because others in this have better overall form.

Came good in the mud last autumn, winning an Ascot handicap in September and following up in this race; hasn't come close to that level this season, including back on soft ground in that same Ascot handicap four weeks ago, but still no surprise were he to revive in refitted blinkers.

Two 7f soft-ground wins last term were kicked off in a similar handicap on the Saturday of this meeting one year ago; followed that up with a Redcar Listed success under Rossa Ryan one month later; hasn't matched that in two starts this term but this tends to be his time of year and he stays 1m; respected down to his last winning mark.

Peak form French Group 2 (1m, soft) last summer but there's other 2022 form which has not been matched this season; tongue tied penultimate start and blinkered latest, but neither today; needs a revival.

Peak form came in winning a soft-ground French 1m Group 2 last summer; respectable in Listed/Group races this term; entitled to run better last time at Sandown when back on soft ground and the tongue-tie tried there is replaced by blinkers, which didn't do wonders for her when tried once in Australia (Group 1 admittedly); can be keen, so the assured strong gallop should at least help.

Standout effort came when winning a soft-ground Group 2 at Chantilly (1m) last summer; 0-8 since, admittedly without encountering soft ground in her three runs this summer (second in Listed race on good to soft) but the seeds of doubt have been sown; tongue tied first time.

Form & Verdict
Remote on sole run on heavy, in Listed race last November; worth another attempt at this grade having improved in handicaps this season, winning on soft ground at 1m/1m2f on three of her last four starts, the first of which was at this track; some work to do on form but she's been on the upgrade.

Form & Verdict
Half-sister to winners Pride Of America (8.6f-1m3f; RPR 116) and Deja (8.6f-1m4f; 114); all four starts have been in France, first of all winning over 1m on soft and heavy (dead-heat) ground this spring; absent four months before her improved show to be second of 11 in Listed race at Longchamp (1m1f, good to soft) 17 days ago, making most; firmly in the mix, including with further improvement possible.

Three-time winner including on her return in a Leicester handicap (1m, soft) in April; didn't seem to fail through a lack of stamina when third of four in a Group 3 at Sandown (1m2f, soft) last month (runner-up has won since); half-sister to two winners with RPRs of 110 and 106 on the AW; interesting.

Verdict

While Checkandchallenge and Aldaary bring better form, preference is for the well-related 3yo MISS CANTIK who has had only four races, won twice in the mud and showed improved form when second in a Listed race last time out. She would probably not have to make much further progress to win this. Zarabanda has looked increasingly good in soft-ground handicaps and was firmly in charge last time out, so she is feared most.[Richard Austen]
