Tailed off on his debut (favourite) but made amends with a Hereford win ten days ago (four ran); form questionable but he has advantage of experience to offset his 7lb penalty; both runs on good ground.

Late gains (after being hampered) when fourth of 15 in an Exeter bumper ten days ago; that racecourse experience could be vital now that he tackles hurdles for the first time.

Signed off for Anthony Charlton with win against own age group at Taunton (2m, soft) in March and twice went close on good ground for new stable last month (2m/2m1f); might remain vulnerable under his penalty but probably won't be far away.

Signed off for Anthony Charlton with win against own age-group at Taunton (2m, soft) in March and was very close second at Market Rasen (2m, good) for new stable a fortnight ago; ought to play a major role here too.

Consistent profile and did well to be well on top when it mattered at Taunton (2m, soft; runner-up successful since) after some indifferent early jumping; placed on good ground in one of his bumpers; off since March but if straight enough he'll go close to defying a penalty.

Was looking held when running out at the final flight on last month's debut (race won by Summer Night City); could well finish much closer to that rival but Harry Skelton jumps ship.

Looked set for third (of three remaining) when running out at the final flight on his Hereford debut; achieved more when second at Kempton (2m, good to soft) 17 days ago but he was beaten 23l by Captain Marvellous and bumps into another promising Jane Williams runner here.

Second to the smart Salver on debut; narrow winner of juvenile hurdles at Exeter (soft) and Newbury (good to soft; penalised), beating a subsequent winner the final time; the handicapper has factored in some potential into his mark but he's promising.

Didn't show much here on debut before winning easily at Fakenham (2m, good to soft) when Circle Of Hope was well behind; this is clearly much easier than her latest Listed assignment at Aintree where the ground was heavy; not the easiest to assess and she does have a penalty.

5/1

Verdict

The hurdling form on show doesn’t add up to much and the most promising racecourse display is probably Dodger Long’s fourth in an Exeter bumper. He could prove good enough but Harry Fry’s newcomer VALADON is given the nod.[Jonathan Neesom]
