Form & Verdict
Irish horse who has been progressive through his career, including over hurdles; 3-5 as a novice chaser last season, culminating in Grade 1 success at Aintree when taking record in British races over 2m/2m4f to 3-3; looks ideally suited by good/good to soft ground; should make a big impact in open company this season and is very interesting on reappearance.

So nearly won his second King George at Kempton over Christmas but, although he's a class act, excelling over 3m on good ground at that speed track doesn't mean that this test will suit him; his moderate late headway in the extended 2m4f Grade 1 Ryanair at Cheltenham last month isn't that persuasive either.

Won the Martin Pipe over hurdles at this meeting in 2022 as well as a novice chase here that year, but Kempton is where his heart lies, having won the Grade 1 King George (3m, good) in 2024 and gone desperately close in the same race (first-time visor, retained here) on Boxing Day; however, he's been beaten a long way out at the last two Festivals, in this race and the Gold Cup, and a flat track may now be ideal; has something to prove.

Form & Verdict
Straightforward task in similar event at Ascot (2m5f, good) seven weeks ago, having been left with little to beat when Shishkin refused to race; may need to work harder in this field but still commands major respect, being 2-2 at Kempton including a success in this race 12 months ago (soft); 8-16 overall as a chaser and has won five of his last six appearances.

11yo who looked as good as ever when runner-up in a captivating battle with Jonbon in the Ascot Chase (2m5f, good to soft) in February, when bidding to win that Grade 1 for the third consecutive year; won the Grade 1 Melling Chase here (2m4f, soft) in 2023; seemed fine at 3m when 1l second in this season's Charlie Hall (good) and his trainer has won this race six times; no surprise to see a bold bid from this front-runner, who is not ruled out.

Smart front-runner whose record of 5-9 over fences at Ascot features emphatic wins in this race for the last two years (good/good to soft; has scored on soft); had excuses (soon taken on for lead, race possibly came too soon after reappearance) over C&D in November when last seen, failing to land the 1965 Chase for a third time; perhaps best caught fresh nowadays and, assuming he's able to dominate, commands respect in another hat-trick attempt.

Multiple Grade 2 chase winner who has also won three Grade 1s (good-soft), the latest being the 2m5f Ascot Chase in February; this 10yo is unproven beyond that trip and unraced over 3m, but there's every chance he'll stay and he goes well fresh; key player under 6lb penalty if seeing it out.

Form & Verdict
No match for Allaho on a few occasions, including in Clonmel Grade 2 on sole run this term; now wears tongue-tie; holds a respectable chance on best form but he's not the safest jumper in this field, having fallen a few times, most recently last April when in command at Fairyhouse.

Has a poor strike-rate since winning a Grade 1 novice chase in April 2021 and current mark reflects a decline in his form; absent since disappointing in a Galway festival race that looked a good opportunity for him (was best in at the weights); new headgear needs to make a difference.

Form & Verdict
High-class 2m chaser on his day, winner of the Arkle and Tingle Creek in 2022; has played second fiddle to Jonbon in both starts this season and now turns his attention away from the Champion Chase route to a possible Ryanair tilt, with the rethink on distance a logical move at this point; ran well over hurdles on sole 2m4f attempt; withdrawn twice due to good ground, raced mainly on softer; top on peak form.

Admirable veteran, albeit isn't quite the force of old and gained this season's win in substandard Grade 2 at Kempton (2m4f); also perhaps ideally suited by further than about 2m nowadays; beaten twice in this race.

12yo whose career highlight came when winning the Tingle Creek in 2022; showed he retains considerable spark when winning Grade 2 at Kempton (2m4f, good) this January; he may prefer a longer trip than this nowadays but he's a leading player nevertheless now back in a handicap.

Acts on any ground; formerly a high-class chaser at about 2m, best form when winning the 2022 Tingle Creek; seems better suited by further nowadays and, despite his advancing years, managed to land a Grade 2 prize over 2m4f at Kempton most recently; recapturing Grade 1 honours at the age of 12 is not completely implausible, as he's technically still unexposed at this sort of trip and his two main rivals are also veterans.

Form & Verdict
Very solid record (form figures 111242) since joining Laura Morgan and switched to fences; good second in major 2m4f handicap at Cheltenham most recently and filled same position in Grade 1 novice there last March; versatile ground-wise; has progressive RPRs and should go well again.

Very progressive last season, winning three novice handicaps then good second to Stage Star in 2m4f Festival Grade 1; posted another sound Cheltenham effort (2m, good) on reappearance, which tees him up nicely for this prize; clear possibilities with the return to 2m4f a likely plus.

Has not looked back since joining this progressive yard, winning three Class 3 handicaps (1m7f-2m4f; from soft to good) before excelling himself when second at 40-1 in the 2m4f Grade 1 here in March (soft); raised 10lb but there was no obvious reason to believe that improved effort flattered him; his jumping should be an asset over this sharper test; respected.
