Second to the smart Love Envoi in a Grade 2 for mares at Sandown (2m4f, heavy) two seasons ago when progressing well over hurdles; has the build for chasing and to carry big weights, but was due to make her debut over fences at Chepstow on Tuesday (1.30).

Form & Verdict
Consistent in defeat over hurdles last season including on good to soft; built on his debut fourth over fences when winning by 15l at Haydock (2m, heavy), though what he achieved there is debatable as the only other finisher bled and was lame afterwards; still, an RPR of 124 bodes well with a view to his current mark.

Low-mileage 7yo who won three-runner beginners' chase on heavy ground during the winter; probably raced too close to hot pace when weakening fifth in Cartmel race won by Al Zaraqaan last month, and may still have potential.

Two wins from three previous visits here included the handicap hurdle on this card two years ago; two good runs off this mark over fences (2m3f/2m), the latest at Cheltenham on heavy ground that he handles well; might just be vulnerable to sharper types over today's trip on this ground; no headgear until now.

Below par when returning to hurdling at Southwell (2m4f, good) in March; has dropped 2lb since finishing fourth at Wetherby (2m3f, soft) on his most recent chase start and has claims if able to reproduce the form of that or his Bangor success (2m4f, soft) last November; acts on a sound surface.

Form & Verdict
Steadily progressive in handicap hurdles but looks booked to be much better over fences after comfortably accounting for Martator over C&D (soft) during the Christmas period; benefited from a canny ride that day (had nothing to do with strong early fractions) but the handicapper didn't get too giddy with an 8lb rise; could still be very well handicapped.

Favourably treated with Martator on his beating of that rival in late 2023 and, when second to the Williams horse in this last year, he committed a good way from home; didn't really fire back in the spring but he's very able when fresh and worth a second look despite being 2lb wrong; Freddie Mitchell aboard for five of his last six races.

Made all for a successful chase debut at Huntingdon (2m, good) in October but that's not been a springboard to better things following an 8lb rise in the weights; the hood will need to make a difference one way or another.

Three-time C&D winner, including this race last year (good ground); probably won't be favoured by any rain but didn't run badly in Class 2 event at Worcester (2m4f, good to soft) in September on latest outing and is sure to be suited by the return to this track; high on the list.

Form & Verdict
Listed winner over hurdles in France; yet to win in Britain but it's surely a matter of time and, having raced keenly, he went off a bit hot when ultimately no match for Issar D'Airy here over Christmas; went down by under 5l and the ability is there to give the winner plenty more to think about now armed with a 9lb pull.

Form & Verdict
Maiden hurdle winner who so nearly defied a penalty at Fontwell last January; first run since then when too keen for his own good and beaten 19l on handicap debut at Lingfield (2m3f, good to soft); has a pointing background and fences could be the making of him.

Form & Verdict
First and second in his two handicaps as a hurdler last spring when coming along nicely; likely to be as good over fences and could be one of the better handicapped in this field, even from 2lb out of the weights; due to make chase debut on Tuesday at Chepstow (1.30).

Off for nearly a year before pulling up on chase debut (jumped poorly) and when reverting to hurdles in March but subsequent efforts back on good ground yielded two wins at around this trip and he didn't run badly off this mark when third in May; needs to cut out the mistakes reverting to fences but interesting back from a break.

Verdict

While Issar D’Airy looked good here at Christmas, having nothing to do with the strong gallop helped matters no end and runner-up MARTATOR is not without hope of gaining his revenge. The selection will need to give himself a chance (he can race freely) but he has a 9lb pull in the weights and that becomes 12lb when factoring in that Niall Houlihan claimed 3lb off the winner last time. Issuing Authority was essentially the last man standing at Haydock but he’s looking a better chaser than hurdler.[Alistair Jones]
