Form & Verdict
Point/bumper winner; a progressive novice hurdler, winning at Uttoxeter (2m4f) and Windsor (3m) prior to finishing third to Jasmin De Vaux in the Grade 1 Albert Bartlett at the Cheltenham Festival (3m; 10-1); possesses the size and scope to succeed over fences (debut); an exciting prospect.

Successful in heavy-ground Irish point 11 weeks ago, beating a rival who has since gone very close in a bumper; granddam scored in this sphere; wears tongue-tie; interesting contender.

Form & Verdict
Dual bumper winner; travelled strongly when scoring emphatically at Carlisle (2m4f, soft; second attempt over hurdles) last December; bettered that on RPRs in defeat at Cheltenham (fifth in a Grade 2 to today's rival Sixmilebridge) and Newbury (runner-up); noteworthy type on chasing debut.

Good form when winning a two-runner novice chase at Doncaster (3m, good to soft) in December on his second run over fences; however, he hasn't kicked on since and needs to raise his game if he's to win this.

Not fully exposed over fences and has winning form in a match, downing a 1-3 shot at Doncaster (3m, good to soft) in December; has jumping frailties, however, which again came to the fore when an 18l second of two finishers over this sort of trip at Chepstow (soft) three weeks ago; tongue-tie added and maybe this race won't be a stern examination of his jumping technique.

Won a match race at Doncaster (3m, good to soft) in December, his second chase, and certainly didn't run badly when last of five in Windsor handicap (3m, soft) last month, where a last-fence error magnified his margin of defeat; not sure to benefit from this drop back in trip but still enters calculations.

Form & Verdict
Bumper winner for Ben Pauling; kicked on for this trainer over hurdles, winning three on the spin, notably a Grade 2 at Cheltenham (2m4f, soft; 9-1, with Gamesters Guy fifth); a disappointment in the Grade 1 Turners at the Cheltenham Festival; rates as an obvious threat now switched to fences.

Front-runner who has finished first past the post in all six attempts over 2m4f (disqualified on one occasion due to a banned substance); beat Kala Conto with plenty to spare in the Grade 1 Scilly Isles at Sandown (soft), task simplified by the exit of the Mullins-trained Kitzbuhel.

Acts on heavy ground; well beaten at the Cheltenham Festival in both Grade 1 attempts (bumper/hurdle) but faces a more realistic task in this field and remains unexposed over fences; easily beat two rivals at Cheltenham (2m4f, good to soft) last time, taking chase record to 2-2 and looking better than ever; possibilities.

Verdict

Exciting prospect DERRYHASSEN PADDY did everything asked of him over hurdles, culminating in a fine third in the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham. He makes the switch to fences with his trainer stating in a recent Racing Post stable tour that “He’s schooled over fences already, which he’s been very good at. When you see his size, he’s just an out-and-out chaser.” Fully proven on testing ground, he can take this in his stride before moving on to better things, with the Brown Advisory at Cheltenham already nominated.
