Form & Verdict
Bettered disappointing seasonal debut when fifth of seven at Goodwood (6f, soft) last month and is now back on same mark as when dead-heating at 80-1 at Chelmsford in the autumn but others have more convincing profiles.

Generally struggled for this yard but the notable exception came when dead-heating at Chelmsford last October (6f, AW); beaten 19l at Doncaster on his return ten weeks ago; not a solid option.

Form & Verdict
Low-mileage 4yo who won twice over 5f on Tapeta (once here) in the autumn and was placed over that trip on handicap debut at Newcastle in January; not quite in same form on turf last month but that run came after a break and he could quite plausibly have untapped potential over 6f back on AW.

Returned from 15-month absence with 5f AW maiden/novice wins in November/December; advanced his form again when third of eight on 5f Newcastle handicap debut in January; remains with unexposed potential back from a further five months off; a heavy defeat on his 2024 Newmarket debut shouldn't be taken as evidence he won't prove effective on turf.

Belied 50-1 odds when going close at Kempton (6f; AW debut) in May, his second start for Mark Loughnane, but was quickly back in the doldrums (albeit on good to soft ground) on next outing; hard to predict.

Goes well fresh and he scored on his seasonal/handicap debut last April; again ran well when close third off this mark on his comeback (also Ripon, 6f) this term; he didn't back it up when suffering a heavy defeat at York last time, albeit from a poor draw, but this represents a drop back in grade so he's not dismissed.

Tends to lead; started the year well on AW but it all went wrong at Newcastle in March and he could only beat one home in seven-runner 5f course handicap a fortnight ago; easy ground probably no help that day and it's not impossible this C&D winner can stage a revival.

Placed in four of his five starts on the AW (including over C&D), the latest when beaten under a length by a rival rated 10lb superior in a Kempton novice (7f, Polytrack) 13 days ago; relatively exposed but still a major player in this field.

Verdict

It will be interesting to see how well low-mileage 3yo Aigeas copes with a 10lb rise for his emphatic Kempton win 12 days ago but preference is for NIGHT STORM, a dual 5f Tapeta winner who returned from a break with a satisfactory turf run last month and is unexposed over this trip. Jumeirah Sands also still has potential and is another to consider seriously.[Chris Wilson]
