1m2f maiden winner on AW in May; tenth of 16 when 100-1 in the Derby at Epsom (1m4f, good to soft) and improved again when always-prominent third of eight on handicap debut at Ascot (1m4f, good) eight weeks later; 1m6f is plausible and he's had only four races, so could do better again.

Won the Melrose Handicap at York in August 2024; 0-10 since but runner-up in six of those races, including at York (1m6f) on last two starts in close finishes also involving Mount Atlas (who now carries a 3lb penalty); the lack of a recent win has become frustrating, particularly as he had the initiative for most of the closing stages last time, losing it in the last three strides; cheekpieces (tried once last term, runner-up) return; second to Dubai Honour in terms of form.

Won the Melrose Handicap over C&D in August 2024; 0-9 since but he was runner-up in five of those races, including when beaten a neck in C&D Listed event four weeks ago, narrowly in front of Mount Atlas; the lack of a recent win is a touch frustrating but he's clearly a leading contender.

Won the Melrose Handicap here in 2024 (good to firm; for 3yos) and another good run over C&D (good to firm) when third in this last year, 4l behind Al Qareem; not at his best at Ascot last month following a break, and there's a suspicion he may find one or two too good even if back to his peak, but he might not be far away.

Leopardstown maiden win in April came over this trip on heavy; highly-tried since, never landing a blow when slow-starting fourth in Gallinule at the Curragh and again when 61/2l off stablemate Illinois in 1m6f Queen's Vase at Ascot on fast ground; big-race entries remain over further so drop in trip here may not suit although clearly the one to beat on RPR's.

Best form on AW, on which he's 5-7 (including a Listed win from the front) whereas 0-7 on turf; he now has a 10lb lower turf mark and managed sixth of 16 at Royal Ascot (1m6f, good to firm) on penultimate start, but that's easily his best turf form; gelded since a poor show on latest outing.

Form & Verdict
Leicester (1m4f, good to soft) in June saw him off the mark at the seventh attempt and he's continued to run well, scoring again when upped to 1m6f at Sandown (good; acts on good to firm) one month ago; front-running lately and kept pulling out more last time, drawing clear again in the final 1f, so the trip suits him, but 7lb rise looks a bit tough.

Scored twice (at 1m4f/1m6f) for William Muir and Chris Grassick in summer of 2024; very lightly raced and has shown little since for his current yard though, hooded when last of seven in 8.5f Wolverhampton handicap 27 days ago; Polytrack debutant.

Won turf handicaps over 1m4f and 1m6f for William Muir/Chris Grassick in 2024; only seen twice for this stable and finished tailed off on both occasions (hurdles last February/1m4f here last month); hooded and dropped in trip today; risky despite a tumbling handicap mark.

Absent and had wind surgery since a heavy defeat last February on stable/hurdles debut; now goes in tongue-tie; all of his Flat form is on turf; the betting may help to ascertain expectations.

Form & Verdict
Acts on good to firm, below form once on good to soft; had been threatening to win in handicaps before he made no mistake at Wolverhampton (AW) last time on the step up to 1m6f, coming from the rear to lead 2f out and take it eased down by just over 7l; tongue tied last two starts; up 11lb and in class but he has plenty more to offer with staying tests.

AW Flat handicap winner in Britain over 1m6f; ran three times for this stable, second at Leopardstown off 92 before luckless run in Ascot Stakes; returned after 12 months off in same race last time and ran too bad to be true; very useful staying handicapper and fascinating recruit to hurdling for top jumps stable; should stay well.

Dam is Ascot Gold Cup winner Estimate; inconsistent for Sir Michael Stoute in 2024; beaten on the nod at Leopardstown (1m4f) last May on debut for new yard, after which he was all the rage for this race but it was a nightmare for favourite backers, as he was shuffled back (from stall 1) and towards the rear entering straight before running on nicely until denied any room again in the last half furlong; absent since but same mark today and he is surely capable of significantly better; granted better luck, he should have a big shout.

Dam is Ascot Gold Cup winner Estimate; inconsistent for Sir Michael Stoute last term, best efforts when second on good to firm in June and drubbing his opponents over 1m6f on AW in August; tailed off in the Melrose at York (6-1) final 3yo outing but made a bright start for new yard when beaten on the nod at Leopardstown (1m4f) last month; needs improvement but there is a great deal to suggest he arrives here with major potential as a stayer.

Form & Verdict
Made the breakthrough at the ninth attempt, in a 1m2f maiden at Navan (good) in June, and put a lesser show behind her when dominating the closing stages of a four-runner handicap at Killarney (11.4f, good to firm) in July latest; ridden up front, or very close to it, for those last three starts; strode out well last time but this is a much tougher race.
