Form & Verdict
Some smart chase form for Tom George as recently as autumn 2021 (at 2m3f-2m6f) but he wasn't himself in just three runs last year, over fences and hurdles; however, this is a big drop in class so is by no means ruled out for new yard; tongue tied on last two starts but not today.

Two soft-ground wins earlier in career but minor form on that surface now and unraced on heavy, while his front-running win over three rivals in this race last year came on good ground; can be involved if he does cope with the surface.

Good handicapper who wasn't beaten far in the Grand Annual here in 2021; has accrued plenty of hunter chase experience but he couldn't hold a candle to Vaucelet at Stratford last May and has others to worry about.

Course winner at 2m4f who is a dual 3m winner on good/good to soft; however, he was beaten a long way on soft in this race 12 months ago and these conditions are unlikely to be up his street.

Six-time winner under rules, the latest success gained by 15l in handicap hunter chase at Stratford (2m5f, good) last May; pulled up in February, after a layoff, and probably needs the ground to dry out here but will play a major role if back on song.

Productive 2023-24 in handicap and hunter chases (3m-3m1f; good-soft), but longstanding plan to land the Aintree Foxhunters' was scuppered at the Canal Turn; spared a hard race, at least, and the presence of Raz De Maree and Ucello II in the pedigree offers some hope for marathon trips.

Winning 2m4f hurdler on good to soft who made successful return to points in November; not as good next time and the balance of his form suggests plenty more will be needed in this company.

80-1 when a close fifth in this last year and that was after making a horlicks of The Chair; returns on the back of just about his best form yet when third at Cheltenham last month (soft; just over 5l behind Its On The Line), having been in the firing line throughout; the extended 3m2f ultimately found him out and he's a strong contender with stamina assured back at this trip.

By no means prolific in points (3-13) but he's 5-7 in hunter chases after taking a winnable race at Hereford in January (2m5f, good to soft); showed that he can mix it at this level of competition when not beaten far into fifth (staying on) in last season's hunter chase at Aintree (2m5f good to soft; made bad mistake at The Chair); perhaps relying on some of these being off their game if he's to win, but is no forlorn hope over a longer trip that he might need these days.

Form & Verdict
Ex-Irish; very talented 3m chaser in his prime but his form has tailed off in recent times and he didn't run much of a race under these conditions for new yard at Taunton only last week (9-4); regularly wore a tongue-tie in Ireland and it's refitted today so he may do a lot better.

Very smart at about 3m in his day but lost his way for Noel Meade, and after changing hands for £48,000 in September he didn't run much of a race on his debut for this yard in a hunter chase at Taunton; reservations on the back of that.

Verdict

The tongue-tie goes back on Tout Est Permis and it may well make all the difference but he ran no sort of race at Taunton last week and his current wellbeing has to be proved. Espoir De Teillee is another who needs to get out from under a cloud and preference is for NOT THAT FUISSE who ran well in this race 12 months ago when he showed he could handle 3m on soft.[Emily Weber]
