Placed twice on heavy ground in France in 2022 and started off for Venetia Williams with two encouraging runs last year, latterly when fifth of 13 in Plumpton novice (2m4f, good to soft) on seasonal debut in December; needs to learn to settle better but probably still has potential.

Easy win here in November (almost 2m4f, good to soft); late mistakes perhaps more the issue twice since rather than a mark which keeps rising in defeat, and remains of interest.

Tongue tied the last twice; point/bumper winner who tanked through the race before easing clear of Moon D'Orange on his hurdling debut at Carlisle; confirmed himself to be highly promising when holding his own in the Grade 1 Challow at Newbury (2m4f, soft) where he closed to within 2l of the highly regarded Captain Teague (third in last season's Champion Bumper); hard to knock, back down in grade.

Very promising type who has easily justified favouritism in all three runs (point/bumper/hurdle on soft/heavy); had much more in hand than the 2l margin suggests at Carlisle (2m4f) most recently and looks a smart prospect, one with Graded potential; highly interesting contender.

Easily won soft-ground Irish point on debut in October 2021 and also impressed when winning heavy-ground Taunton bumper in a canter in March; fitted with tongue-tie for today's hurdling debut; an exciting prospect.

Having first run beyond 2m when quite a decisive winner of his handicap debut over 2m3f at Chepstow (good to soft); has to enter the equation off a 7lb higher mark, especially with the runner-up having gone one better since; has plenty of stamina in his pedigree.

Comprehensive well-backed winner of last month's chasing debut here (3m, good); jumping not always great, and the form has taken some knocks already, but 6lb rise for that major career-best effort looks lenient; case decent, assuming the drop back in trip is coped with.

Verdict

Market confidence would be welcomed after so long out but JOHNNYWHO is potentially very smart. He had none other than the recent Challow winner Hermes Allen some 19l behind when he won his Irish point and he needs to be winning this to justify his Ballymore entry at Cheltenham. In D’Or ran to a fair level in France and is his most likely danger unless Ranging Bear is good or Starevitch can step up on his Hereford form.[Alistair Jones]
