Form & Verdict
Has taken well to fences, winning handicap at Ayr (2m4f, soft) in November and not beaten far in a similar event at Wetherby just after Christmas; however he faces a much sterner assignment in this higher grade.

Following a two-month break and a spell in the doldrums this 10yo returned to form when third of 13 at Ayr (3m, soft) a fortnight ago; this C&D winner could be in the mix if backing up that latest performance.

Two-time hurdle winner who is 5lb lower than when winning over fences here last March; however, this 10yo has been unable to threaten across his five starts since, back over hurdles on the last two occasions.

Form & Verdict
Unbeaten over hurdles, including in a Listed novice at Exeter (2m, soft), and he made a striking chasing debut at Kempton (2m2f, soft) in November when readily brushing aside two useful rivals; blundered and unseated his rider after halfway when favourite for Grade 2 novice on the same course the following month; remains an exciting prospect.

Fell on only appearance last season and didn't fire on either hurdling start this autumn (albeit not beaten that far on latter occasion); very well handicapped on old form but has quite a bit to prove on first chasing start since spring 2023.

Form & Verdict
Won Grade 1 Challow Hurdle in December 2021 before not giving his running at two festivals in the spring; has jumped well for novice chase wins at Warwick and Plumpton (2m3f, soft) this season, in latter easily beating sole rival; bit disappointing when beaten at odds-on in between; may not have reached his limit and commands major respect.

Best known for his 2m4f exploits that include Grade 1 novice wins over hurdles/fences; however, put up a good fight against odds-on L'Homme Presse when upped to 3m1f in Grade 2 at Cheltenham (soft) most recently, emerging as the best horse at the weights; one of a few runners who remain unexposed at this sort of trip.

Verdict

Barring accidents this should be fought out by LAC DE CONSTANCE and Stage Star. The latter, a Grade 1 winner over hurdles, is likely to be a tough nut to crack but preference is for Lac De Constance, who made such a striking impression on his chasing debut and departed before the race had begun in earnest last time.[Richard O’Brien]
