Fourth in the Grade 1 Ballymore Novices' Hurdle at the 2021 Cheltenham Festival (2m5f, good to soft) then absent until Carlisle (2m4f, soft) last month, where he was a promising third in a Listed intermediate chase; this very lightly raced 7yo could build on that run with a big performance here.

Scored twice as a juvenile hurdler last season; has not transferred that form to chasing in three attempts, early faller latest; something to prove.

Verdict

Dan Skelton’s LAC DE CONSTANCE was unbeaten over hurdles last season and looked a natural over fences when winning at Kempton in the autumn. He suffered a mishap last time but will have live claims at the forthcoming Cheltenham Festival if all goes to plan here. It’s hard to know what to expect from Bear Ghylls, who disappointed last time, but he still has considerable potential and can’t be opposed with confidence.[Chris Wilson]
