Very lightly raced, with ten runs in five years, and although smart form for these connections in 2023 included a C&D win and a close second in the Northumberland Plate, he hasn't been eased back to that level in two starts following another absence; down in grade but questions for now.

Third on Polytrack as 2yo on his only AW start; raised his game with the step up to 1m6f, first-time cheekpieces and soft ground when narrowly taking a valuable handicap at Haydock last July; yet to find any further improvement (the first of two starts this season was creditable) but the cheekpieces return today for first time this term and 2m holds possibilities.

Second, first and third in the last three Chester Cups and not far away in this race two years ago; back up 3lb since latest Chester Cup, however, and he didn't quite reproduce the Chester form in either the 2023 or 2024 campaigns.

Form & Verdict
Progressive last year after switched to Polytrack and upped in trip, winning at Chelmsford (2m/1m6f) on final two outings; shaped okay on 2023 reappearance but disappointing at Goodwood next time, both on turf; peak AW RPR makes this look a good mark, though.

4-15 for David Simcock; four runs for current yard, absent 582 days before this season's, in which he showed that significant ability remains; needs to build on those performances but going back up from the 1m5f of last two outings should suit and he continues down the weights; case can be made.

Form & Verdict
Often apprentice ridden; Listed winner at Nottingham in April and very reliable in good handicaps, including with his fifth in the Chester Cup (2m2f, soft; career-best form) on latest outing and his third and fourth in the last two runnings of this race; 6lb higher than 12 months ago but in the thick of it again if his Chester Cup form is repeated.

Form & Verdict
Had two runs on Polytrack three winters back, winning on second occasion; made an eyecatching debut for this stable when fourth of 16 in the Chester Cup (2m2f) in May and he again ran well when second at Haydock (2m) and fourth of 19 from a wide draw at Royal Ascot (2m4f; raced very prominently); probably effective in cheekpieces and they return for the first time in a while; major player if that turf form is transferred.

The vast majority of last year was disappointing; however, perhaps first time up will be the time to catch him as he reappeared with a good third in this 12 months ago; now 12lb lower; could be dangerous.

Form & Verdict
Both wins over 1m4f at Hamilton, including penultimate start (3lb higher today), but arguably his most promising performance came when beaten a head over 1m6f at Nottingham last October when denied a clear run before finishing strongly; form dipped on latest outing when tried for the first time on good to firm; however, he probably retains overall potential and has plenty of stamina in the pedigree, so looks very interesting on this AW debut.

Long layoff before he stuck on from last into a respectable sixth in nine-runner handicap at Goodwood (2m, soft; 7lb lower today) this June; seemingly found 14.5f too short at Doncaster next time (not disgraced) but his 2m run at Ascot 12 days ago was pretty disappointing.
